This is really the tale of a rifle, of walking and perhaps a new old way of doing things. I had told my PH the first night in camp I was good to 500 with cartridge, load, bullet and skill set but much preferred 100 yards to 500. I also told him I wanted to walk, a lot. Seven days of hunting we...
That's a wrap. We spent 1/2 hour watching a good bull kudu this afternoon. He wasn't going to break 50 inches so I finally lowered my rifle and we slipped off. I hadn't planned on Kudu this trip any way, unless he was huge.
The trip was fantastic can't say enough about this outfit.
Found quite a few kudu bulls this morning, good age class bulls but nothing to eclipse my first one. Finally put the sneak on one but he managed to elude us.finally shot a pig. The 300 HH has worked just fine. We're going into a little valley this afternoon one last chance on a Kudduv
These guys kill so much game from small Antelope to waterbuck, kudu and eland. We've an apprentice in camp, college age kid. He's already guided 27 kudu, 1/2 dozen eland and doesn't really know many Impala and spring bok. He's also killed several Buffalo and a couple of elephants hunting with...
Yes there is quite a lot of favorable opinion on Barnes. I saw quite a few Reed bucks yesterday, thought about taking another but my bad wind call kinda shook me.
Exactly how my Ph described him, after evaluating him for just a few seconds. He was also very apologetic he had missed the broomed off left horn. I've never been worried about measuring animals on the ground but on every one Mark called it before the shot. The inches were an after thought. What...
This morning we went looking for a kudu that would compare to a 350 class or better elk. Actually drove up the same canyon I killed my kudu last time. Ph says my first kudu would compare to a 300 inch elk just for reference. After getting into the area a bit we left the truck. We gained quite a...
According to the assembly of PH on this property; the swift Aframe is the best bullet. The Accubond is a close second, the 300 WM is simply the best cartridge, no need for discussion, the absolute worst is the 6.5 creedmore. There will be more from the South African guide shack😁
Vince weather reports appear favorable, the rut is on, I saw more Kudu yesterday than I've seen all together. I'm sure I'll see your pictures of a cape Kudu soon. Nyala have proved elusive for me as well. Those damn hogs are everywhere when you're busy stalking something else👍
Had a little adventure today, Wednesday. PH asked if I was interested in taking a hike on an 8000 acre cattle ranch the outfit is thinking about acquiring the rights to. They are still evaluating the hunting potential. Sounds great I said. Spent three hours hiking saw Kudu, Black Wildebeest...
Taxidermist stopped to pick up last weeks animals from the outfit. Measured the waterbok at 77 inches, figures he'll easily top 67 inches after drying. 67 is the minimum score for the book. Don’t think it makes me famous🤣
Today, Tuesday was anticlimactic. At dinner last night one of the PH told my PH about a herd of 12 or so Gemsbok he had seen. This morning we drove into the area and instead of driving the road decided to take a walk around a big basin, on x showed it to be a 4 mile loop, we should find...
Got him! Well it took three days, granted, picked up a Lechwe and wildebeest in the process as well as mixing it up with Cape buffalo on a couple of occasions. This has been a great adventure.
Monday morning started mostly clear with a hint of fall in the air. The trackers have typically been...
