Africa 2026

Had a little adventure today, Wednesday. PH asked if I was interested in taking a hike on an 8000 acre cattle ranch the outfit is thinking about acquiring the rights to. They are still evaluating the hunting potential. Sounds great I said. Spent three hours hiking saw Kudu, Black Wildebeest, lots of springbok and Impala, Red Heartabeast, warthogs, waterbok and more. Walked 3.9 miles, shot a nice Impala Ram and a mountain Reedbuck. Land owner asked we shoot a wort hog for staff, got one for the workers. Both the Impala and reed buck were 300 yard shots.

This morning starts another day.
Last night the plan was to go after zebra today and let the kudu settle a bit. The tracker saw two, he was in a ridge, but again couldn’t close the deal.
I’m glad I got extra days added to my hunt. The weather isn’t cooperating that’s for sure. Today we should be going after zebra and warthog. Still have kudu and nyala to nail down.
Rain yesterday morning again and cloudy all day. My PH has eyes that see stuff so far away. I’m jealous!

Vince weather reports appear favorable, the rut is on, I saw more Kudu yesterday than I've seen all together. I'm sure I'll see your pictures of a cape Kudu soon. Nyala have proved elusive for me as well. Those damn hogs are everywhere when you're busy stalking something elsešŸ‘

According to the assembly of PH on this property; the swift Aframe is the best bullet. The AccuBond is a close second, the 300 WM is simply the best cartridge, no need for discussion, the absolute worst is the 6.5 creedmore. There will be more from the South African guide shack😁

This morning we went looking for a kudu that would compare to a 350 class or better elk. Actually drove up the same canyon I killed my kudu last time. Ph says my first kudu would compare to a 300 inch elk just for reference. After getting into the area a bit we left the truck. We gained quite a bit of ground finding ourselves just right as the kudu traveled to bedding areas. In two hors we saw 4 shooter bulls, equivalent to my first bull. We had one at 300 that had great tips but my PHfelt I wouldn't be happy as he was smaller than my first bull. We made a big loop finding only smaller bulls and cows. About 0900 we found ourselfs at the top of the mountain looking for RedHartebeast. They are elusive and run at the slightest hint of man. We covered another couple of miles on foot before getting a chance. The range was only 300 and a little but I failed my wind call hitting him in the guts. Thankfully he came out at 400, I pulled almost to his ear and sent another. That worked.

That’s good G2 Don. If you can, ask where the PT stands. Specifically the the 375 H&H 300 gr PT for Cape Buffalo.
