Varget works really well in the 308 but don't overlook IMR-4895. My 308 loves IMR-4895 and 150 gr Ballistic Tips. I get 2810 for velocity and just a hair over half inch accuracy with that combo. That velocity should be right in the wheel house for the 150 gr BT.

Soo, all you are really wanting to do is disrupt the central nervous system. Pass through is not really needed for this.

Outside of the monolithic and bonded bullets there will be issues when hitting any of the heavier bone structure. Standard cup and core bullets simply can't stand the stress against bigger bones when pushed really fast, however, slow that bullet down some and it'll perform substantially better.

My 280 really likes IMR 4831 and a 139 gr SST bullet. It shoots them at 2900 fps and 3/4 inch groups. Plenty good for my hunting style! I tried a higher charge weight and got 3000 but had ejector marks, and primers that were a little too flat for my comfort.

Choose which ever shoots the best in your rifle, then go kill stuff!

Im a little OCD with my case weight. While Ive found that there is no difference I like my cases to be within a couple grains of each other. Water capacity is what I would be concerned about the most. The only time Ive ever had any powder lot issues was with Varget and that only happened once...

The scrutiny that would come from lawyers and LEO's if you ever had to kill someone would be horrendous. It would not be wise to use any type of "reloads" for personal defense. There's more than one reason LEO's don't and can't use "reloads".

I'm really not sure why I feel this way but Ive got about much use for the "aught 6" as I do for a card carrying PETA member, however, Ive had several over the years and all shot well. There's no arguing about it, it's a great rifle cartridge.

Ive had my A-Bolt for 30 years, its not a 375 but it shoots wonderfully well. I've killed north of 150 deer with mine during those years. It shouldn't be too hard to find something that shoots good! Good luck.
