    McGowen Barrels Customer Service

Douglas is quick too. I have several of their barrels. Through my gunsmith in Bend, turnaround from the time I drop off the rifle until pickup is usually 4-6 weeks total.

    Ruger No 1 280 Rem

Very nice rifle. Never was much of a .280 fan myself, .30-06 has always been the apple of my eye. That said I don’t know why it couldn’t do much if not most of the same things. I was just thinking today about how I will need to get another No.1 as I sold my 6mm a short while back. It will...

    30-06 --Tried and True

Ah the .30-06! There isn’t much I can add that hasn’t been said already. My first, a Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless is still my favorite. With this rifle I have killed a train car of coyotes, bobcat, mule deer, whitetail deer, an aoudad, and most of my elk. I have used several factory...

    Sako L46 Riihimaki .222

I had a decent shooting Rem 722 in Triple Deuce a few years ago that I sold like a fool. This Sako is even prettier and shoots better. I’m happy! Love me a good .222!

    Sako L46 Riihimaki .222

Near as I can tell no. Cosmetically the Vixen had a nicer machined floor plate, where mine is stamped. The bolt shrouds are some different too. I happen to think a 24” barrel is just about perfect for any of my sporters, even with a .222 26” is too long, 22” is too short.

    Sako L46 Riihimaki .222

Thanks! Always preferred the look of a dull, hand rubbed finish. The stock modifications made it feel much more like a sporter and less like a wannabe target rifle. That said, if I can find a heavy barreled Winchester push-feed target rifle in .222, I may just get it for punching paper!

    Sako L46 Riihimaki .222

Never too late to pick one up! Starline (and others) make brass, .224 bullets are plentiful. The report from the 24” barrel is just a bit louder than a .22 Magnum to my ears. Definitely quieter than any .223 I have ever fired.

    Sako L46 Riihimaki .222

Took this Sako L46 Riihimaki .222 in partial trade for my Ruger No.1 6mm. According to my research it was made early in 1952 (SN-80XX). The stock needed some work. The forend was super wide, and the pancake, roll-over cheekrest was excessive. I took out some material in the wrist, leaving a...

    The .41 Special

I must say, this one has me more excited than any other “newer” handgun cartridge that has come along in the last 20 years. The idea of a 215 grain bullet at 1000 fps, seems useful both for self-defense but also hunting applications. .30 Super Carry, meh. .327 Federal Magnum, whoop-tee-doo...

    Muzzleloading 12 gauge

So it’s not a Traditions, but a Knight TK2000. I have attached some pics below. Thanks for the tip on those “shot cards” WV, I will get some ordered. I wonder if with the .715 roundballs, any sort of wad or patch is desirable?

    Muzzleloading 12 gauge

So no doubt due to a mild case of sentimentality and possibly some heat exhaustion a pal of mine (we are both on the local volunteer fire department) recently gifted me a Traditions In-line muzzleloading 12 gauge. This is not your typical fouling piece. It is housed in a synthetic thumbhole...

    9.3x57mm

Anyone here have any experience with this cartridge? The 9.3x62 gets a lot of attention and rightly so, but his slightly shorter brother has been on my mind lately. A <200 yard deer/elk/bear cartridge that can handle heavier bullets (232-270 ish are the range I’m most interested in) than a...
