    243 75HP Powder

I have had excellent velocity and accuracy with Ramshot Big Game and Nosler 70 gr Varmageddon or Speer 70 gr TNT’s. My Stevens .243 seems to prefer flat base bullets.

    270 win 130gr interlock SP

The very bullet I used on the mule deer buck in my avatar. Worked just fine at 2900 fps. The Ballistic Tips in the past worked as well, but have been harder to find lately.

Variables in velocity in load development for 270WSM

Years ago I tested most of the available primers (yes, back when they were ALL available and AFFORDABLE) in my .270 WSM with my favorite load and was surprised that the standard Federal 210 primer gave the most consistent results vs the various magnum and even the bench rest versions. I didn’t...

    Shooter’s Pro Shop

It has been awhile since I’ve ordered from SPS, but blems have always come in the plastic bags with a label stuck on. Maybe you received factory over runs instead of blems . I have received those in factory boxes in the past.

    Speer data, Deepcurls 25cal

Email Speer customer service, they will send you a PDF with Deep Curl load data for the 25-06. They provided me with data for the 150 gr .277 bullet for both .270 Win and 270WSM.

    What won’t work for you?

H-4198 or IMR-4198 in the .223, tried some years ago and found mediocre accuracy and low velocity. IMR 800X powder, tried it in .357 Mag and .38 Spec., metered so poorly I used the remaining for fertilizer. These experiences were over 20 years ago, but hard learned lessons tend to stick with you.

    22-250 20" 1 in 12" twist

Well, I tested 6 each of the rounds with H-380 and the 60 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip and the Hornady 62 gr SPBT. Good news is they were stable at 100 yards and grouped okay. 3 shot groups averaged under 2" for the Nosler with the Hornady doing under 1.5". Considering it was a first attempt with...

    22-250 20" 1 in 12" twist

Thanks for the replies. I was concerned that the short 20" barrel might not generate enough velocity to stabilize the long 60 gr Ballistic Tip with only a 1 in 12" twist. Guess I will find out tomorrow for sure, as I loaded up 10 rounds with 38.0 gr of H-380 and another 10 rounds with the same...

    22-250 20" 1 in 12" twist

My son and his buddy recently purchased Howa rifles in 22-250. Interestingly enough, they have short 20" barrels with a 1 in 12" twist rate. They think they have the ultimate truck gun for coyotes. I picked up some 60 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and wonder if anyone has tried them in a short...

    quickload for 30-06 varget load?

Agree, it didn't seem possible that the cases would extract without issue, if the load data on the box was accurate. That is why I believe that maybe he had written the wrong powder on the box. It still could create a MAJOR problem for him if he goes out and buys a pound of Varget and loads...

    quickload for 30-06 varget load?

Thank You, Nydan. That is kind of what I expected, as I was guessing it would be over 70,000 psi. If the loading data on his box was correct, eventually, he will have some problems. Hope I am not around when it happens.

    quickload for 30-06 varget load?

I was hoping someone could run a quickload estimate for a load I encountered while serving as a safety adviser at my club range. According the label on the shooter's ammo box, he was shooting a Remington 700 30-06 with 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, Winchester cases, Winchester large rifle...

    Short barrel 22-250 loads?

Thanks for the reply. I was pretty surprised by the chronograph results of my initial loads. Not sure if make the muzzle blast/flash of the 20" barrel was affecting the chronograph, but the 50 gr TNT loads with 34 gr of IMR-4064 clocked under 3,000 fps. Nosler's data had indicated over 600...

    Suitable powders for 6.5X55 & 30/06 ?

Decent other options for both would also include IMR-4064, W-760/H-414, Reloder 15 and 16. The odds are that while these would provide acceptable results in both, optimal results would be a different powder for each cartridge and rifle. Just depends on how much you want.

    Short barrel 22-250 loads?

My son recently purchased a Howa Ranchland in 22-250 with the lightweight 20" barrel, 1 in 12" twist. Any load suggestions or data regarding velocity of various loads? I have a bunch of various bullets on hand, as well as a few powders that should (or might) work, including IMR-4064, 8208XBR...

    .338 Federal starting point

If you aren't happy with the LVR, you might consider Ramshot TAC, or IMR-8208XBR. We wound up using IMR8208XBR with 180 gr Accubond in my son's Ruger Hawkeye. TAC is another viable option.

Best bullet weight for big hogs/elk in 338 Federal?

It is claimed to be temperature stable, and meters better than IMR-4064 or IMR-4895. It has worked pretty well with 180 gr Accubonds.

Best bullet weight for big hogs/elk in 338 Federal?

TAC should work well. Another powder that we settled on for my son's Ruger Hawkeye .338 Fed.is IMR-8208XBR. It might be worth a try.

Discovered a new local powder supply

Ranch and Home in Kennewick, WA had 20 1lb on the shelf yesterday $24.95 each, along with a pair 8 lb kegs. $199.95, IIRC. Universal Clays is definitely back in production.
