Yes, barely can hear it, I backed off the bushing by a quarter turn and the bushing numbers are facing down.
The fired case measures .341 on the neck, and the bushing is a .336, that gives me .005" size down, and its .338 loaded. I could try a .337 bushing if I have one , but the .307 mandrel...
I recall using N165 for my 7 Mag a long time ago, it was the only VV powder I used. I have read that VV has gained popularity these days.
I am curious on what VV powders are liked for the .308 and 6mm BR. I use Varget currently for those two calibers.
I read that N140, N540 and N550 is great...
No, sorry for not being clear in the first place, I meant just the sized case neck on a RCBS CaseMaster to check neck runout, without the bullet seated in it. As for the expander, I never liked them for the reason you gave, I removed them all from my dies, I use a Sinclair carbide expanding...
I use Redding full length non bushing and bushing dies along with competition seating dies on a Redding Boss press. I use the trusty Hornady lock rings to secure my dies. I have no issues with accuracy with my rifles, but I have seen some runout of .003" after using the bushing sizing die which...
Wanted to try a new tune for the .308 GAP with 26 inch barrel, I'm bored and currently have 30 rounds on hand with 178 ELD-M and Varget which was made a year ago. Speed last recorded at 2730 fps / 43.7 gr. Varget which is decent. I have a new box of 165 Accubonds and 4 boxes of the 180...
Not too sure on this, but just a thought. If using very fine 1000 / 3000 sandpaper wrapped on an undersized bronze brush and wet hone it with a drill with even strokes,,,,🤔
Are those casings getting a little sticky in the cylinders? I recall pushing loads with the .41 Magnum until it was a bit sticky using maximum loads which was on the hot side, and backed off a tad and was back to normal extraction. I would use a round bronze brush with Kroil from time to time...
Send 2 lbs of Blue Dot my way, hard to find those powders I used for my .38 Super years ago. :D
Currently replaced Blue Dot with Power Pistol as an alternative and boy its a screamer.
Never used Red Dot, but have used Blue Dot mostly for the Super when I used to be in those weekly local pistol...
I could choose both options, shoot all the ammo and have it fireformed in one go, then anneal, resize it and tune up a few loads to see what the rifle likes or just pull all the bullets, remove the decapping pin and size all the brass carefully , and find a load using virgin brass using the same...
180 Accubonds hands down. I used this bullet on those tough nilgai with the 300 Win Mag. You won't go wrong with it in the 308
Here are some pics of the 180 Accubond recoveries. First 2 pictures, 180 AB at 30 feet , and 3rd / 4th picture is at 200 yards facing me. Tough critters needs tough...
I have never used HBN coatings, but I do remember using moly that I coated on Berger 168 VLD a long time ago for my .308 tactical rifle. It shot so good until I sold the rifle. I never used moly again after that, moly is messy and builds up layer over layer in your barrels and it attracts...
After reading reports on the VV powders, I may be tempted to try the 500 Series for my 6.5 x 284. Currently running the 143 ELD-X and H4831SC at 2893 fps using 52.2 grains. My speeds would not be in sync with book max speeds, reason for working up to pressure and backed off half a grain.
Seems...
