Osage is a denser/heavy wood and tends to have a deeper tone, it also works well when you size it down for a copper or aluminum call. Padauk is light weight wood, and it makes some loud calls with a mid-range tone. Both usually impart a ton of rasp. Really boils down to personal preference. I...
Making calls with any image. I use Osage, African Padauk, and Flamed Osage. They are double side calls with glass on top and a smaller slate on the bottom. They come with a striker, Maintenace kit, and acrylic display stand. The pics will be re-sized to fit the call and professionally printed...
Recover? Never fully back to 100%. When I was a kid dad would twist the filter off a cigarette and stick it in his ear, just 1 ear. When he shot a long gun. 😂
Well, I guess I'm a real old fart when I'm feeling nostalgic and drag out dads 38-55 to punch a doe tag. Must be so embarrassing for the deer to know that old, ineffective, past it's prime, hunk of lead was the last thing it felt.
If you're shooting a 12 gauge with longbeard XR's there's really no reason to buy into TSS. I use 3" longbeard #5's and the Carlsons Long Beard choke and have no trouble flattening gobblers at 50 yards. Although I did get a box of Magnum Blend to try and see how it does.
Since TSS shells hit the market, a lot of guys figured out that a 20 gauge with a tight choke and #9 TSS shot, knocks 'em dead with a massive pellet count on target at ranges we probably shouldn't be shooting at turkeys. But $10-$15 a shell hits me in the gut.
There's a used 375 R at a local pawn shop, a Mossberg Patriot. It's been collecting dust for a while. I think it's $325 with a cheap Bushnell scope and leather sling. I've been tempted to bring it home a time or two.
I was held up entering a mine site while they put off a shot. They accidentally brown down a high voltage tower. A whole bunch of folks were out of power for a while.
My old eyes are getting bad and when I get on the shotgun the bead just turns into a fuzzy halo. Fiber optics sights worked OK, but I think this red dot is going to be the answer. Haven’t shot it, but just looking through it , it’s MUCH better.
I couldn’t get a smith to drill and tap mine in time, so I took it apart and one of the machinists at work walked me through it on his lunch break. The duct tape was for vice protection.
