300 Win Mag / Barnes TTSX Ladder Test

That is incredible speed and accuracy. That load has me seriously questioning why I have RUM. That is a proper thumper

    7 PRC Loads

Nice shooting Sean. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I wonder whether that is the right powder for the 7PRC with the 150eldx? It is a fine bullet, I use it in my 280ai with great success on red deer and smaller species, but the 280ai is moving them along at 3,030fps or thereabouts and...

Why No Love for The .308 Winchester

Them bulletproof deer are becoming a real problem 😉

Why No Love for The .308 Winchester

Seems a little like the older we get the more we realise things don't have to be difficult. Like you, I have had a multitude of rifles with big cases, but these days I find myself grabbing the mild mannered 7/08 more often than not, the little brother to your 308. Nice rifle and deer. Looks like...

    6.5 CM 130gr bullet test, Part 2 - 129gr Hornady SST

It’s a reasonably tough little bullet in our experience, at least at the velocities generated in a 6.5x55. It has punched through shoulder blades, ribs and spines on red deer. They do expand quite violently. I think this bullet is much like a ballistic tip in that the first iteration might have...

    2025 Hunting Season

It has been a good year. There has been good food in the paddocks for the animals and little hunting pressure on the properties we go to. Offshore has also been good with quite a few wahoo and mahi mahi this season too. I will hunt again soon in the coming weeks. Majority of game taken with...

    2025 Hunting Season

Here's some from the year so far. We typically hunt for meat, not trophies.

    Bullet Anatomy

92 grains of Retumbo gets it out the barrel of my Rum at 3,132fps with an SD of 7.9. That's out of a 26 inch barrel. It is an incredibly accurate load but probably in a cartridge I would never buy again. I have enjoyed playing with it though.

    Bullet Anatomy

I agree, the profile on that accubond combined with the bonding make it an absolute killer out of the 300wm and up. It goes very well out of my 300RUM.

    Bullet Anatomy

Thought I would put up a couple of pics of some bullet cross sections for you all. The first picture is a 30 cal 200 grain accubond and a 30 cal 165 sierra tipped gameking. I was very impressed with the jacket thickness of the TGK but would want some velocity to make it work I suspect. The...

Will there be an RDF in 25 for the 25 creedmoor?

It’s a good looking little cartridge that. Think it is my favourite of all the Creedmores. That 128eldx would also make a fine goat and fallow deer bullet.

    Another one to play with

Great shooting. What a top little scrub gun

Rifles that Need to be Hunted (or loads developed for) in 2025

So far my boys and and I have shot pigs, wild dogs, red deer and fallow with a 223, 6.5x55, 7mm08 and 7mmRM, 308. Rifles that should get a run but for one reason or another haven’t, 260, 280ai and the 30/30 in the tighter bush.

Sporting clays at my end. Closest thing to field shooting I can get.

Completed transition from Alliant to Hodgdon...

I share your pain. I used to use RL19 & 22 but you can’t get that anymore. RL26 I never got the chance to play with. It is H or AR powders as we know them here or nothing. Crazy times that still haven’t improved. At least we can buy primers now

    7 PRC Loads

As Shrek would say, that’ll do donkey, that’ll do. Great shooting and that is a load that will put meat on the table every day of the week. The only problem is now when you miss, you can’t blame the rifle 😉

    Gaps in your caliber battery

I find myself regularly playing this game as I think about what’s in the safe. If it was a calibre gap, it would be something quarter bore. My issue is I have safe queens that very rarely get shot and very rarely hunted with. I have a few go to rifles that almost always come into the bush. It’s...
