I really love 1911's. I've built them for years. I love Hi Power (40's) too. But for the past 10 years or so, I only carry Glocks. They're light, and are the only handguns I know of that out of the box are completely reliable, extremely accurate, rust resistant, safe, simple, and don't have...
Yeah, they're Czech. I have an older one marketed through Charles Daly. It's a pretty good receiver. I haven't built on it yet. It seems about the same quality as a Mark X or Santa Barbara 98.
Most likely it's an egg shapped or "out of round" chamber. Most factory rifles are that way. Unless you get the case back in the chamber oriented the same way it was when it was last fired, it will be hard to chamber.
Check case length and bullet seat depth first. If it's ok, try a small base die.
I wipe cases off before sizing, then tumble after sizing. No worries with neck and mouth deformation with vibratory case cleaner. And of course the lube is gone
They were not super high grade guns but those receivers are good. Wouldn't mind having a few.
I don't know for sure what the twist is. Probably 1-9. You can check it yourself:
Use a good cleaning rod with ball bearing handle. Put a bore brush or jag with patch on it. Start it into the bore, then...
Douglas makes good barrels. 20 or so years ago they were top of the line. For my own rifles I use Kriegers and Harts now. I have two guns I built about 15 years ago with Douglas air guage barrels. One is an XP100 in 308 and has had about 6000 rounds put through it. I should re-barrel it but it...
Remington triggers are easy to adjust. Be carefull to keep enough sear engagement and don't set the overtravel to tight, or you'll end up with a hang fire (gun goes "click" but doesn't fire until you lift the bolt handle). Very dangerous situation for shooter and gun.
A couple of years ago I...
Vetical stringing can be caused by many things, but usually it's one or both of these: Shooter changing his sight picture/point of aim from shot to shot, and or bedding.
I would float it, and bed it. Bedding those oily injection molded factory stocks is a little ticklish but I do quite a few of them successfully.
I've never seen a rifle not shoot better after properly bedding the receiver, and floating the barrel. Even it doesn't shoot better, it can't hurt a...
