    Knives????????????

Ok, so it is an old thread. I have the Havalon Piranta as well as the Baracuta. They now have saw blades to fit the Baracuta! Makes short work of the pelvis or legs. Been using these knives for 5 seasons. Never an issue! The blades are scary sharp and stay that way for a lot longer than you...

.270 Win 130 grain Partition vs doe ***GRAPHIC***

Book says 3124 on velocity but not sure on actual. It didnt run at all. Dropped and slid about 20 feet downhill. I keep trying to send the pic of whole deer but it says the file is too big.

.270 Win 130 grain Partition vs doe ***GRAPHIC***

Took a doe this morning with my .270 Win. 130 grain Partition, 59 gr H4831. I was still hunting, heard her walking above a highwall and dropped to a knee. Sharply quartering toward me from 50 yards. Impacted shoulder bone on the way in, shattered it. Entrance into ribs was 3 inches wide...

.308 Winchester 165 BT on Whitetail -- Warning Graphic

Thanks. The load is 44.5 gr IMR-4064, Nosler case and WLRM primer. Very accurate in my rifle. It basically duplicates the M118LR 7.62x51 ballistically. Which I have vast amounts of experience with. I am intimately familiar with its trajectory. The BT as the same BC and is far more...

225 Tipped TSX recovered from black bear

I have never been fortunate enough to hunt out west. Hoping to one day. I was saving for a hunt but got layed off work when the oil prices crashed.

.308 Winchester 165 BT on Whitetail -- Warning Graphic

Well, a little follow up. Shot a fairly old, poorly endowed buck yesterday with the same load. Shot was at 227 yards sharply quartering toward. Bullet Punched through the sternum, clipping inside edge of the shoulder on its way. Bullet fragmented pretty bad but I don't mind that. Dead is...

225 Tipped TSX recovered from black bear

I knew I was stretching the limitations for expansion on the load. What surprised me was the bullet had one petal to shear off at that distance. Under normal circumstances I would have been more hesitant to take that shot with that bullet but I had researched the load and knew it would be...

225 Tipped TSX recovered from black bear

Now that would make it worth all the work of getting a big critter out of the woods.

.308 Winchester 165 BT on Whitetail -- Warning Graphic

I appreciate the comments guys. I normally use the 150 grain Partition, however I felt like trying something new. Thrned out to be exceedingly accurate to boot. It will be my standard deer load for general purpose from now on :)

225 Tipped TSX recovered from black bear

That is the only one I have recovered. I was fortunate enough to receive a lot of training as well as have the ability to train many shooters during my time in the Army. Practicing under realistic conditions and becoming intimately familiar with your rifle works wonders especially when you are...

225 Tipped TSX recovered from black bear

Thanks. The tens of thousands of rounds at practice and hours spent fine tuning loads and myself payed off.

225 Tipped TSX recovered from black bear

This one was from December, 2013. Shot from my .338 Win Mag while hunting black bear spot and stalk on foot in southern West Virginia. Shot was 518 yards quartering away. Long downhill shot. Bullet entered high and penetrated 29", breaking the offside shoulder and lodging under the skin...

.308 Winchester 165 BT on Whitetail -- Warning Graphic

I actually did see devastation such as that from a snap shot with .300 RUM and 200gr Accubond at about 20 yards that hit low on a frontal shot on a large doe. All that was necessary to complete field dressing was cut the esophagus. And it fell about 20 yards from an atv accessible logging...

.308 Winchester 165 BT on Whitetail -- Warning Graphic

Maybe I should have clarified. The photo was taken in the process of field dressing. That is the remainder of heart and lungs laying on the deer. I removed it not the bullet. Incidentally it is covering the entrance wound which was slightly over caliber size btw. It was shot at a steep...

.308 Winchester 165 BT on Whitetail -- Warning Graphic

I was unable to recover the bullet due to a passthrough. Quartering away shot from 119 yards. Handloaded to approx 2700 fps MV. 1/2 MOA from my Ruger Hawkeye All Weather.

    2012 Hunting Pictures

It says "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached" every time I try to post the pics. Thanks it was a very demanding hunt but well worth every second and every ounce of sweat. It was quite adventurous with encounters with two mountain lions coming around camp.
