That exactly what I've been told about my hunt. Catch them early in the morning make a precise shot, and be ready to quickly send another if it takes to running.
Guy I hunt with have belly crawled for yards just to get close enough not to spook the herd.
Currently not concerned about the ability to kill the buffalo. More important is a quick dispatch.
This forum is giving a great bit detail. Thanks for the inputs.
Keep the info coming. Hunting experiences are greatly appreciated.
Bison hunt scheduled in August 2012.
Plan to use 200 grain Accubond with 300 Winchester Magnum Remington 700SS 5R. 2859fps Reloder 22 70.5 grains. Group size 0.43417" @100
Has anyone else hunted Bison with this setup?
Shot placement and maximum shot distance? Figure under 300 yards...
Accuracy is the number one concern followed by Fps.
Nosler states the accubond shouldnt be used below 1800 fps.
With this information the best accuracy and fps is important.
The difference in the Fps is just part of the puzzle I'm yet to understand.
I greatly appreciate the feedback from you...
Looks like case could be solved Nosler book page 404 is about 24 - 120 fps faster then IMRPowder site rating for their powders looks like measurement difference. Huge variance over book. Looks like its very important to verify your loads before you hunt...

Thanks for the quick feedback.
Brand new 1 lb. As for the chrono graph was at 10 ft and fully deployed. It was a sunny day.
Expected to see faster rather then slower with the extra 2 inches of barrel.
Well at this point this load will have to work for Elk.
Need a bit of help. Chrono'd my Remington 700 300 win mag (5R) 26" barrel with 200 gr accubonds today and was amazed to see 2741 fps. Book value shows 2862fps for imr 4831 powder @67 grains. 112 fps slower?
RL 22 72.5 grains chrono'd bit quicker then book @2965fps groups .830"
