I've been out of the loop for a while and while I've been gone I've been thinking alot about a new rifle. I had decided on a Steyr ProHunter Blued 24" in 30/06, but after spending a few months look for one that is either new or used I've decided that maybe I might want to find something more...
I snagged a NIB Jw-15 off of auctionarms for $100 shipped. It might be a Norinco but it was a well made copy of the CZ and just as accurate. Being NIB even though they haven't been imported for a long while was really cool too. I had been looking for a deal on a 22 like this as a cheap to shoot...
I've been thinking about this for a long while and Tom's 6.5x55 search kinda set me in motion.
I've been thinking long and hard about a Steyr ProHunter 24" in 30/06. I finally decided to grab one. Came across a used one at Cabelas for $599 and didn't pull the trigger because I wanted a new...
It shoots as good as it feels. For it size it has very little recoil thanks to STI's Recoilmaster system. Very accurate, stayed in the 9 ring at 15 yards using cheap Indepence 115 FMJ.
Problem. On round 45 I had a failure to eject, on round 48 I had a failure to eject again. Went back to the...
Just looked at a used STI LS9, the price seems really right at $550.
Anyone got any trigger time on them? Anyone convert one to 38 Super? I've been looking for the right deal on a Colt Commander in 38 Super for a while and this might be a better option.
Thanks, Jimmy
I've seen a number of articles in the past about shorter range 30/06 loads using 30/30 type bullets.
One of the places I hunt is public land in East Texas, Davy Crockett National Forest. It can get really thick there. You can be 10 feet off of a forest service road and not know it is there...
I love my 95 in 30/06 especially since the the recoil was a lot lighter than expected, but I have never been a fan of the buckhorn rear sight. So I ordered a repro Lyman 21 from Providence Tool Company. Took it to the range finally yesterday afternoon to get a good zero on it to use it in East...
I picked up a S&W pre-Model 28 6 inch that was reamed out to 357/44 Bain and Davis off of gunbroker while I was deployed the last time. Got all the RCBS dies and a lot of brass with it.
Anyone have any experience loading this round?
