I recently purchased a CZ 584 in 12gauge/7x65R and need to start working up some loads for it. Since I will be using this at least part of the time in Central California I need to get a condor friendly load together for it. I am initially thinking about using 150 gr bullets in either E Tip or...
Wow! That's the first complaint I've heard about Powerbelts not expanding. Usually its complaints that they are too soft and blow up when they hit bone. Where did you shoot your mulie and how far away was it?
JD,
You aren't kidding about the cost of factory rounds in .416 Rigby. I'm down to about 15 rounds from the last couple of boxes I bought. I think they were $125 each. Today the Federals are about $100 more than that. This is definitely a caliber where handloading will save some $$$.
I was...
JD,
Thanks - this was with a Federal factory load using the 410 gr Woodleigh Weldcore. I haven't got around to playing with the .416 yet, but plan too this spring with the 400 gr Partition. If I can get it and the new Nosler solids to shoot to the same point I think I have my load for Africa...
Thanks for the info. I didn't see the new catalog. I like the "same point of impact" part. Will the next Nosler reloading manual contain load data for the new solids and also identify which loads match up with the PTs for same POI?
Thanks
I saw on the Winchester web site that they are offering loads in .416 Rigby (and other DG cartridges) with Nosler Solids and Partitions. I didn't know Nosler made solids and now that I look on the Nosler web site I don't see them. Can anyone from Nosler provide any details on these bullets and...
I posted a similar question earlier regarding 6.5x55 loads for deer/elk. The thread is here: http://www.noslerreloading.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5093&highlight=
The 130 AB is now my 6.5x55 bullet of choice.
Thanks again to all who provided suggestions. My rifle season is wrapped up for the year. My freezer is happy. I was able to take a smallish 8pt whitetail and a very large cow elk with my 6.5. With the 130 ABs and RL22 the accuracy and bullet performace was exactly what I needed. Looks like...
I shot two deer a week and a half ago with Barnes TMZs (essentially MZ Expanders with a plastic tip) in 250 gr. Both deer had good exit wounds, good blood trails and piled up with 20yds of where there were shot. Damage inside the chest cavity as perfect - lungs turned to jelly and the heart...
I used a .416 Rigby with standard factory loads on a white tail buck last year. The meat damage with the .416 was less than what I experienced on a different white tail later in the season with a .300 Savage. Pictures and details are here if you are interested...
Thanks to everyone who replied. I finally got out to the range this weekend to check out some of the loads I had put together with RL-22 and IMR-4064. I think I can conclude that my rifle is VERY finnicky about what it likes and doesn't like. Across different loads for two bullets and two...
I am working up a load for a late season cow elk/doe antelope hunt for my sporterized Swede M96. I had planned on using 140gr Nosler Partitions, but haven't been able to get very good groups with the first few loads I tried. Although I haven't seen any keyholing, I think this is probably due...
