Has anyone ever used this twist in a 22 -23" barrel cambered in 30-06? If so what did you notice over a 1 in 10 or other twist you have used? What projectile and weight did you use?

Thanks

WM

I have 30-06 rifles with 1 in 12" and 1 in 10" twists but never considered a 1 in 9 " barrel. Personally, as the heaviest bullet I may never shoot would be something in the 250+ gr. weight, I see no need for that fast a twist. My 1 in 10" rifle will put 5 shpts into 1.0" or slightly less on a good day. with the Hornady and Sierra round nose bullets. Haven,t shot the 220 gr. Noslers that are longer so maybe if you have the need the 1 in 9" might be more appropriate and I doubt it would hurt with most hunting bullets.

I've never used a 1-9" '06, but, I have a 1-9" twist on my .300 win mag. Got it just to see if it may help at 1500+ yards. It doesn't seem to be detrimental to accuracy, just have a little more spin drift. But, a 1-10" twist is adequate for 200, 210, 215, 220 and 230 grain bullets at .300 win. mag. velocities. I'd have to look at the numbers for the 220's and 230's out of an '06.

Here's a pic of 215 Berger's out of my 1-9" .300 win.

My 30-06's had 1:10 twist and shot everything from 125 gr to 220 gr well. The 1:9 twist may help if you were to shoot the 200gr + VLD's.

Thanks guys. I was curious as a local shop has that barrel from a special order that was never picked up.

Think I will pass.

Thanks again

I think if I got a deal on it, and was a contour I could use, I wouldn't let the 1-9" scare me off.

+1

It will stabilize the heavier bullets and may be a real shooter.

I agree with Mike  the 1-9 twist would not hurt anything & as Mike stated would stabilize your heavier bullets. A 1-9 in a good quality barrel would be very desirable!!!

I've got a box of Berger VLDs 180 grainers on my bench and the box says for 1:10 twist.
So i don't think it's always just about bullet weight. My 22" barreled model 700 in '06 likes 180s just fine but i haven't tried the Bergers yet so I can't say.
