sjb358,

The maximum velocity for the 7-57 in Hornady's new manual is 2700 fps.

Those loads are in 1930 pressure maximums. A modern 60KPSI action will safely reach those velocities that Scotty is getting.

Thank you Savage 99 for looking up that data. I have a couple Hornady manuals as well, but I am shooting Nosler 140's. So all of my data has been researched and built using Nosler manuals and QL software.

And Charlie nailed it..

The maximum load in Nosler #6 shows 2892 fps.

Maybe you have 130 gr bullets?

The 7mm WSM will do 3295 with 140's.

In a moder action with modern brass you can go side by side with the 270 65K psi MAX

Yeah and I think if 3100-ish is do-able in the 270 Win with 140 grainers, then 3000fps would not be absurd in the 7x57 with a modern action rated at the same specs.

Lets face it; Hornady does a 139g load for the 7-08 at 2950fps and it has less case capacity than the 7-08.

I might add I am not a fan of driving loads into the red-hot zone, but a 7x57 deserves to be loaded to the potential of the rifle it resides in I think.

Thank you for the info on the 7mm WSM. Never heard of it. Sounds pretty good though..

Here is a 140 AB pulled from the backstop at my 200 yard target.. Still looks pretty decent after smashing alot of rock and dirt..

Very impressive, Scotty; very impressive, indeed. That would put a lot of punch into any game. In my old 280, that is one of the bullets I've gravitated to for deer and elk.

Scotty thank you for that bullet test with photos. There is not a lot you can say when a bullet performs like that !

Blessings,
Dan

Just for kicks try some IMR 4350 in the old 7X57 if you happen to have any sitting around.
I bought my wife a Ruger M77 in 7X57 about 30 years ago. For hunting I loaded with 140 Gr. PT's, a very good bullet in that chambering.
I use to have at least half a dozen rifle powders on the shelf all the time but now I only have IMR 4350 and the results with the 7X57 is what made me rethink the powder thing. I have used it in .22-250, .243, 7X57, 7mag and .300 Win. It is a really versatile powder.
Of course that was before all these new powders have come out. But it remains a good choice.
Wish we still had that M77 but I let her sell it when she quit hunting. If it had been left handed we'd still have it.
