Nosler,

Is there any difference between the 160 gr AB and the 140 gr AB (other than weight)? I was just curious if the 160 gr would open up as qiockly as the 140 gr on deer sized game, provided the velocity is the same.
I am planning on using the 160 gr AB in my 280 AI for WT deer this year.
The rifle is shooting in the .2's if I do my part and MV is 3000 fps.

I believe that your decision should be based on which weight shoots best in your rifle. Between the 140grAB and 160gr AB the deer will not knnow the difference. I tested both in my Browning B78 single shot rifle with 26" bbl and settled on the 140grAB, simply because I could wring a bit more MV out of the lighter bullet and both shot comparable groups, with the 140gr AB being a tad better over several groups printed.

If the 160NAB is shooting that well, stay w/ it. It will not expand quite as fast but the extra weight is comforting on a bad angle shot.

fredj338,

That is exactly what I did and for the reasons you mentioned.
The only problem was that the deer and weather didn't cooperate!

I run the 160grAB @ 2850fps from my .280 & have only been able to test them so far. I find they expand a bit more than the Part. but pentrate a bit less in wetpack. I need to try the 140grAB as my deer/antelope round. I like the 160gr for a deer/elk round.

Well, I dont shoot that bullet, but I know a little about bullet weight and speed and how it affects expansion. Since the 160g AB is heavier, it probly has a little thicker jacket/base, and it will be starting out 100-200fps slower then the lighter, 140g AB. I would say, but this is just an educated guess, that the 140g AB would open up faster, and easier for 2 reasons. First is, the initial impact velocity will be greater, and 2nd the bullet is lighter. Now, this is not saying the 160g AB will not open up on a deer. It will still open up, but not "as" quick as the 140g would. I would stay with the 160g AB for an awesome all around load. YOu cant beat it from anything from yotes, antelope, deer, elk, bears.
