Any you guys with 300 RUM's shooting 180 bullets use the Ballistic Tip to save money target shooting over the cost of Accubonds?

I do this with the 30-06 I have. But use the AccuBond in hunting situations. Is it working for you with the 300 RUM as well, given the BC is the same?

The AB and BT may not shoot to the exact POI. You can practice with the BT and confirm your zero with the AB loads prior to your hunt.
Another option is to shoot Nosler factory seconds. Its all I shoot. I develop a load and then shoot that bullet regardless of it being an AB, BT or PT.

Same here! 2nds all the way. Then you don't have to worry about what bullet you are shooting! Scotty

Actually I bought 500. 180 grain WW Power Points several years ago that I do most of my practice with. I don't fiddle with the sight setting because the rifle is sighted in for the 180 PT, I just leave it where it is and recheck prior to hunting season. All of my animals have been under 450 yards and the BC "difference" is not really a huge factor at those ranges.

The 180BT and AB shot to the same point of impact in my old 300 win mag all the way up until I shot the barrel out. I was never a big fan of the 180BT on game, but liked it for practice. My rifle originally had a 28" barrel and I got 3250fps with the 180BT and I had it fail to exit on several broadside whitetail. One bullet only clipped a rib and still didn't exit. The deer all died quickly absorbing that much shock and shrapnel, but I felt like a 180gr bullet should exit, especially if I wanted to use the same load on bigger game. Then the AccuBond arrived and I love it, I shoot it from almost all my hunting rifles in all calibers. The newer ballistic tips are probably better, I remember reading that they beefed up the jacket in the 180gr a while back. My opinion at RUM speeds, the ballistic tip would be alright for practice, but I'd recommend sticking with the AB for game. Or just shoot AB seconds and don't worry about it.

Amen on seconds when you can find them. The the Partitions I got for my 358Win are consistent in weight and shoot great.

Don, So I expect you will be tossing that 180gr Pill around 3300 out of the big Rum?
180gr BT's rated for impact velocities up to 3200. It if was my gun, next change I got I'd load up on the 180gr BT seconds and shoot everything with them.

Antelope Sniper,

Yeah it's about 3300 fps, I have a great load developed with the AccuBond, just wanted a few suggestions on maybe shooting Ballistic tips to save some money. Been watching for seconds for a while none available currently. My 30-06 has the same POI on the 150's with either BT or AB.

I think the proshop had the 180gr BT seconds either a month or two ago. It might be another 5-6 before they have them again. Use what you have until then, then stock up!!
