Any body got any Suggestions, Info, or tips on loads using the 180 gr ab in a 338 rum ? Whats the opinion this bullet heavy enough for Elk ? I,ve been using the 225 AB in this rifle with excellent results 89.1 grs of RL22 = 3094 FPS thru my chrono. 3 shot groups @ fifty yds ave..150 to .375. Just trying to see how they held together I hung a six in circle of 3/16 boiler plate on the target back stop. The 225 gr AB was traveling 3023 fps according to my ballistics program left a .450 exit hole in the boiler plate. a .550 exit hole in the 1/2 in plywood that serves as the target holder and penatrated 9 ins into the lime dust pile that serves as my safety barrier behind my target. The recovered bullet mushroomed to .697 with a measurement from the base of the bullet to the front of the mushroom being .341. the most impressive thing to me was the recovered wt. was 112.5grs after all of that abuse makes me want to try the 180's to see if they are anything like that . Great Bullet Nosler!

Boonie,

I have been testing the 225 gr BT in my 338 RUM and recovered bullets from 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water. The bullets look VERY impressive.

200 yd recovery-
90.0 grs RL22
.778" expanded
144.0 grs (64%) retained weight

300 yd recovery-
.777" expanded
144.5 grs (64.3%) retained weight

I will try to get some pictures posted for everyone to see.

As for the 180 gr AB in the 338 RUM for Elk, I think I would opt for a heaver bullet. These 225 gr AB are impressive.
