180AB versus a large black bear

I had the opportunity to harvest a pretty large black bear. 2 shots from 50 yards with my .300WSM/180AB combo that's done so well.

1st round hit a little low, shattered a 6" piece of the sternum and wrecked the entire heart lung cavity. The bullet exited in a big bloody hole. The bear dropped to the shot but stood back up so I shot him again.

The 2nd round hit through the shoulder bone, took out a chunk of spine, and exited through the off shoulder in another big bloody hole. The bear turned off instantly and went back down in a heap.

No bullet fragments, just tremendous trauma and large exit wounds. Either of these would have individually fatal, but there's no bonus for a one shot kill on a bear. Impact speed would have been 2850ish, nearly full MV.

Sounds as if the bullet performed extremely well. Definitely did the job that needed to be done.

Congratulations on the bear. Your session is off to a fantastic start!

Said it before but it's pretty tough to beat the 180 gr AB for an all around bullet in rounds like the 30-06 and 300 WSM in particular.

Boy, was hoping to see one of those 180 AB recovered. Love thatbullet!

Very nice! What a track record you're stacking up with that rifle/bullet combo!
