Resident Canada goose season in Ok opened 9/13
We'd scouted this field the weekend before and found a few birds.
99 degrees Friday the 12th and 52 with 15 mph N winds at daylight on the 13th.
That blast of cool air felt GREAT after a typical Texas summer.
Anyhow, the first group of birds into the decoys and the first shot I was rewarded with a band.
44 years of waterfowling, this is the 4th band I've collected.
Hope this is a precursor for a GREAT season.

Wow! I remember those precipitous weather fronts. You did well, however. Congratulations.

HT,
Way to go buddy, Its been a few years since I have been Goose Hunting, sure miss it though,
Your pic brings back good memories.

Don

Thanks all.

That's awesome , you'll have to update us on the info on the band.

Had band info before we left the field thanks to a smart phone.
Bird was banded 2 years back, about 15 miles south of where I shot it.
Banded in Durant, Ok.
Female about three years old.

The only other banded Canada I killed I shot in Mo about thirteen years ago.
It was also banded locally, about 60 miles away.

Now if you fellas will do me a favor ?
Send some more of that cooler weather this direction ?
It's still in the 90s here. :(

Well it's hovering around 0*C today, I think that's about 20* F.. Be sure to ship some south!!

It was zero (32 F) this morning over here in Dawson Creek. It's about time. It got up to ten (50 F) today, and it's back down to five (41 F) now. Projected to be -2 (28 F) overnight. Finally, some fall weather.

Nice band HT!

That is really cool. I have one band from a Canada I shot 10 years ago in Ohio. I was so excited to call in and get the information and see how far it had migrated.....

2 miles. Thats right. It was banded two miles down the road at the lake. bummer.

That's hilarious !

Well we did get a little cooler fellas.
Had a storm blow through here yesterday late afternoon with about 20 minutes of hard rain.
Temp is in the 60s this AM, still shorts and t-shirt weather.

Heard on the news this AM driving to work that there are 150,000 customers without electricity as a result of the storm.
Wind gust of 100 MPH was recorded in Cedar Hill, Tx south end of Dallas where Creedmore lives.

Congrats on the banded bird that is always a welcome surprise for any waterfowl hunter. Last season I got my second banded mallard. I LOVE goose hunting and we had a pretty good sept season as well. Looking forward to the rest of the goose season to come as the cacklers have come in early this year. Specs were also migrating early this year.
