I'm thinking about transitioning to the Hornady ELD-X in my brother's T3 7mm Rem Mag. I bought a box each of 162 grain and 175 grain.

I use MagPro with the 160 AccuBond and Retumbo with 180 VLD Hunting. How do these powders fare with the 162 and 175 ELD-X?

Remington brass
WLRM
24" barrel
3.290" OAL

Thanks,

P

Quickload doesn't have the ELD-X bullet data in it. At least my copy doesn't. However if you can measure the bullet's overall length, The diameter of the small end of the boat-tail and the length of the boat-tail , can maybe create the records. The BC also needed.

Looks like the 175 isn't optimal since the Tikka is twisted 9.5, the 175 wants 8.5. The good news, the 162 wants 9.5, so I'm starting there. I'm hoping for accuracy at 3,000 fps MV.

Is 1-9.5" twist standard in most 7mm Rem?

Yup. 9.5 and some being 9.25.

Looks like excellent speeds with Retumbo. That 162 should fly nice at over 3K.

Scotty do you know what Winchester twisted the M70 at? Curiosity killed the cat and I'm wondering when it will catch up to me

9.5 is what mine have been twisted at Rodger. It'll shoot 175 Partitions just fine. Probably not the 175 ABLRS or long match types.

My 7 RM (New Haven manufacture) is a 10 twist. It does stabilize the heavier bullets quite well. I don't know how it would do with some of the newer heavies produced by Berger or even with the ABLR.

I believe my buddies and my nephew's 7mm mag are both 1-10" twists but I am going to look up to confirm. My nephew's CDL shoot that 168gr. ABLRs very well (y) using RL22.

PS. Just looked up my Nephew's CDL and it states they have 1-9.25" twist and I am still trying to find out the twist on my Buddies Krico.

Blessings,
Dan

I loaded 3 each last night, 3.291" with 70 grains MagPro, 3.294" with 71 grains Retumbo. The Retumbo load with those loooong bullets is compressed. I'm gonna shoot them over the chrono and check the cases for pressure. I'll post my results. Maybe a range day this weekend.

FYI, Hornady data for MagPro exceeds Quickload.

Mine is a New Haven push feed guess I'll have to stick a patch on a jag and measure it.

Welcome aboard, rootie3. The old 9.5 twist Remington's could deliver some excellent accuracy. One of my favourite loads is a 175 grain Partition charged with H870. Of course, H870 is no longer manufactured, but I have a good supply laid in to last me for some time to come. Again, welcome aboard.

RL26 works great in my ridgeline I just picked up . Gun has a 26" BBL and I am getting 3037 fps with 69gr of 26 with the 162 eldx. I shot it out to 710 yards the other day.

RL26 has been amazing in quite a few cartridges. If you've got it I would try it!
