Why anyone would build a .25 anything anymore is beyond me. The .243 vs. .250 savage or Bob is a joke right? The .243 can clock 4k and run .500 BC bullets.... the Bob/Sav can't even come close to either. More recoil for less performance.... Yippie!

Different strokes for different folks. It's sorta the same as why do people buy Ford's and Chevy's when we all know Dodge's are better trucks..

Just kidding about the Dodge thing, but it is the same thing, in a different context.

Actually I do not have any long range Handguns any more. But I do know a couple guys that use the .260 in Speciality Pistols with good success.

Sorry- I thought you were building a "charger" at one pint. Musta been some body else. Good luck with your search. Must have a few yotes in your part of Gods country? CL

Yes I did build a custom Ruger Charger and it turned out great. Also had a Contender with a Super 14 .223 and Super 14 .30-30 AI Barrels. Also sold an Encore Rifle with 24" .223 and 24" .30-06 Barrels, as well as a couple AR-15's, a Customized Remington 1100 12ga. and my wife's Remington 700 .308.

Unfortunately due to my wife's illness (my wife has ALS) and me having to go to part time work due to health issues (I am still fighting with social security disability) I have had to sell off just about all of my guns.

Now I am slowly trying to start over and trying to decide what I am going to try to replace everything with.

I owned one 243 win. in a M700 varmint spl years ago spent a lot of money trying to make that rifle shoot which it never would I sold it and I built a 257 Roberts on a 725 Rem long action. It has been the sweetest most accurate rifle I have ever owned. Before I would get another 243 I would get a 6mm Rem AI which is a better round IMO.

Got a few dead things hangin' on the wall that didnt think the 250 was very funny. Everybody's got a belly button friend. Most of us like what we got cause it works for us. The man asked.... so you volunteered. I got no problem with that. CL

I am going to be quiet and just be happy that I am still shooting the .257 Roberts as my ultimate varmint rifle and not talk down too much about the .243 Win!

Just kidding, the .243 Win is a great varmint caliber. I always used the 80 grain bullets for coyote hunting and for prairie dogs in a 22 inch barreled Model 70. For those who use the lighter bullets the 20 inch barrel seems to work well for them and is very handy. I sold my .243 a couple of years ago and am using my .257 Roberts now which is a fine varmint rifle with 85 gr bullets. Good luck on your choice, whatever you decide.

Hard to beat a good light 243. 22-250 with a fast twist barrel would also get the job done. If its legal for deer in your area. 20" should give you about 3250fps with the 64gr Winchester PP.

Thanks for all the replies. Been thinking this over a bunch. Still have not decided for sure but am leaning towards a .243.

It's a neat discussion, and I think your .243 idea is a great one.

I'd kind of like to find another Browning BLR in .243 Win. Ours is a .308 and it's been dandy, but I do like the small bore rifles a lot.

Speaking of which, I've got a surprise I'll be bringing out to mess with soon...

I recently clocked 3150 fps with 308 winchester and 125 accubonds and all five touching with a bit of vertical spread with 20 inch barrel remington 40 x Tactical set up with badger creek ten round magazine.
