My first animal shot with my 325 WSM fell quickly to one shot this morning. Pictures will follow. I shot a small cow on an antlerless meat hunt. 330 yard shot in steady snow showers and she went right down. I love carrying that light Kimber around the hills.

Very nice! Sounds like a great shot! The 325WSM is gaining steam around here, that is for sure!

Congrats on the elk.

Nice! Congratulations. You've got some good eating coming up now!

I like your combo of a lightweight, high quality hunting rifle in a solid hunting cartridge.

Congratulations. I sure do enjoy my 325WSM. I'm launching 200 grain Partitions, and every elk and every moose shot with this rifle dropped quite handily. You have a great cartridge in the 325WSM.

..."Congrats!!!", love my .325 WSM, still holding out hope for a high B.C. 220gr. Nosler bullet...

Congrats Fire Hawk!

Always interesting to me what caliber one chooses but more important is the ability to put it in the right place. Looks like you did mate.

Wildgene, I am with you too. I would love a high BC bullet option for the 325 wsm. So far, I love this rifle and it is a definite step up from my 7mm Rem Mag.

Thank you for the congrats.

Question? Will a 220 gr .325 bullet increase performance enough in a .325 WSM to make up for carrying the extra weight with less MV and higher trajectory?

As I mentioned, she was a small elk. My boy's 7mm-08 would've been fine, but he wasn't up there with us. I chose small so that the horses could handle the load a little easier thinking they would have two. Unfortunately, my buddy missed his shots at a cow and I could have easily shot one of the larger cows. Snow was coming down pretty hard and made selecting the elk in the scopes a little difficult. There were some bulls mixed in, and we only had cow tags. Due to the snow beginning to coat our scope lenses, we had to be pretty particular before we made our shots. Luckily, my son and buddy still have about two months to fill their tags so I still have more meat to fill the freezer most likely.

...220gr. Sierra @ 2800fps MV// 400yds./ 2170fps/ 2299ft.lbs/ 21.3" drop (200yd zero)/ 10.3" drift

...200gr. AB @ 2900fps MV// 400yds./ 2033fps/ 1839ft.lbs/ 21.9" drop (200yd zero)/ 14.7" drift

...180gr. AB @ 3000fps MV// 400yds./ 23230fps/ 2156ft.lbs/ 18.3" drop (200yd zero)/ 9.6" drift

...respective energy @ the muzzle// 3830ft.lbs/ 3734ft.lbs/ 3599ft.lbs., so IMHO a high BC 220gr. bullet puts the .325 WSM into a whole new perspective. Just for comparison...

...225gr. .338 AB @ 2850fps MV/ 4057ft.lbs (Nosler#7)// 400yds/ 2297fps/ 2533ft.lbs/ 19.7"/ 9.4" gives the .338 an advantage, but most people who have shot them will agree the .325 WSM is a lot more comfortable to shoot...

So I wish I would have taken a photo of the tenderloins. Man were they amazing. I marinated them in olive oil, touch of soy sauce, touch or worchesire, a little pepper and salt and ALOT of garlic and parmesean cheese. Soaked it for a full 24 hours in the fridge. Then, I thread the tenders on the rotisserie skewer and set the grill to get er done. Absolutely AMAZING!!!

Can't wait for my son to get his down so we can do it again.

That does sound like a meal fit for a king. Wow! And I'm waiting on lunch.
