200 Grain Accubonds in the 30-06

I assume your rifle will shoot them accurately and curious at what velocity you might be accurate with them. From what length barrel-
My problem is that the velocity doesn’t take advantage of the bc of the AccuBond and closer in, there are better options. So it is imo not the best for closer work and loses its effectiveness at longer distances.
In my mind the 200 AccuBond is best left to a .300 wm or similar.
But if you had some 165 gr AccuBond I think that is the golden ticket from a .30-06.
I’ve seen the heavier weights used in Africa for closer in shots in the Limpopo area and it works fine, but so would just about every other option. But those aren’t longer shots either-
I’m a big fan of the AccuBond, one of my favorites, hope it works well for you in whatever capacity use it-

I'm afraid I can't help you much regarding 200 gr. Accubonds in the 30-06. I do agree with the comment that they would most likely work in a .300 magnum of some sort. I have run 200 gr. Speer Hot Core in the .300 Win. Mag. and they drop elk nicely ay out yonder.
The only AccuBond I've run through a 30-06 had been the165 gr. bullet. Very accurate and I have taken elk with it. The problem is the rifle in question has a 24" 1 in 12" twist barrel and does not do well with anything heavier than 165 gr. although it did give one decent group with a 180 gr. bullet. The funny thing is it's reasonably useful with the220 Sierra round nose running about 1.5" most of the time. But with the 165 gr. AB it's usually .50" or less for a three shot and so far never over an inch for five shots.

I actually bought the 200 gra.in Accubonds for the two 300 RUMs that I have and just was wondering how they would be in the 06. I have been using the 165 ballistic tip and the 165 accubonds in the 06 with good results. Thats for the response

I guess I am the odd man out here. I think the 200 AB and similar are really good in the 06, 2600+ is achievable and a bit more with some of the good powders out there today. I used the 212 ELD for elk a few years ago in an 06 with SB6.5 powder in Lapua brass. With the increased BC of the 200 AB and similar you may deal with a bit more drop but in todays world of great reticles or dials it's really nothing to sweat. Heck, even with the old school 200 yard zero you're still well within what a 308 or similar does with a lighter bullet but you have better wind resistance and increased velocity as the ranges get longer. Nothing against running a lighter bullet either, but the 06 certainly has ample powder room to get the 200 grain bullets going very well.

Haven’t used the 200gr AB in a 30-06 but 200gr + bullets RL-17 , RL-22 , and N555 have worked for me. Still have to try Superformance yet.
