Just returned from my annual (20+ years now) trip to Wyoming. Drew three different tags for antelope, deer and elk. Took two different rifles along this year, a Rem 700 in .280, shooting 140 gr. Nosler Accubonds and my custom .300 Win mag. shooting 165 gr. Accubonds. Both rifles/rounds performed flawlessly.
First day out I took a nice antelope at 162 yards with the .280. With a pretty strong side wind, the bullet (140 gr AB) went through one hind leg and hip bone and lodged under the far right side. Bullet recovered showed a perfect expansion down to 112 grs. I'd definitely recommend this bullet to anyone.
Two days later, @ 272 yards and again a strong side wind, I dropped a nice 4x4 muley with my .300 Win mag. Bullet (not recovered) was a 165 gr. AccuBond and the buck dropped in his tracks.
The morning of my last day after two weeks in camp, I got real lucky and took a huge cow elk at 171 yards with my .280. I was pleasantly pleased at what that little .280 and the 140 gr. bullet did when the cow dropped in her tracks. Wardens estimated her live weight at between 600-700 lbs and 6-7 years old. She sported two very nice ivories and lots o great meat.
All in all, the trip was a great one with three of us (my son, a cousin and myself) all getting our animals, seeing lots of critters and in general having a great hunt. Can't wait until next year to do it all over again.
