Just returned from my annual (20+ years now) trip to Wyoming. Drew three different tags for antelope, deer and elk. Took two different rifles along this year, a Rem 700 in .280, shooting 140 gr. Nosler Accubonds and my custom .300 Win mag. shooting 165 gr. Accubonds. Both rifles/rounds performed flawlessly.

First day out I took a nice antelope at 162 yards with the .280. With a pretty strong side wind, the bullet (140 gr AB) went through one hind leg and hip bone and lodged under the far right side. Bullet recovered showed a perfect expansion down to 112 grs. I'd definitely recommend this bullet to anyone.

Two days later, @ 272 yards and again a strong side wind, I dropped a nice 4x4 muley with my .300 Win mag. Bullet (not recovered) was a 165 gr. AccuBond and the buck dropped in his tracks.

The morning of my last day after two weeks in camp, I got real lucky and took a huge cow elk at 171 yards with my .280. I was pleasantly pleased at what that little .280 and the 140 gr. bullet did when the cow dropped in her tracks. Wardens estimated her live weight at between 600-700 lbs and 6-7 years old. She sported two very nice ivories and lots o great meat.

All in all, the trip was a great one with three of us (my son, a cousin and myself) all getting our animals, seeing lots of critters and in general having a great hunt. Can't wait until next year to do it all over again.

Congratulations! A mulie buck, a pronghorn and an elk! Sweet.

Seems like it was a real fine hunting trip, with family making all that much better.

Nice...

Congratulations on a fine hunt. The .280 is certainly up to the task, as you have demonstrated. You will have fine dining this coming year.

Congrats. Where do you hunt in my home state?

That's a great trip right there! Congratulations, and you should have some wonderful table fare also! Hard not to like a .280 Remington!!

To Fotis....."Where do you hunt in my home state?"

We hunt west and south of Buffalo about 40 miles. Not the easiest of country to climb up and down in but it works for me. At age 75, I can ALMOST keep up with the young guns but at a slower pace. I've spent my last 23 birthdays in Wyoming and feel like I'm almost a resident. Have family in Gillette who have lived there for many, many years.

Dave, I chuckled at this. Man, do I relate. I can still climb mountains, so long as it is at my pace. I'm slow, but steady; and I'll get there, eventually. May God give me strength to continue until the day I have accomplished all that should be accomplished; and may He give you many more years to see Wyoming.
