Went hunting this morning and had beautiful cold weather and the perfect wind for my swamp stand. My buddy was hunting a stand on the other side of the property and had been watching a pair of spikes. At 737 two large does and a fawn came out onto my shooting lane. They were at my max comfortable shooting range of 50 yards but they stayed bunched up and I couldn't get a shot. Eventually the fawn and the smaller of the two big does wandered off, leaving the biggest one. She moved slightly closer but was directly facing me. Eventually she got to exactly 45 yards and gave me a broadside shot. The 180gr XTP hit home and I watched steam pour out of her side from the bullet hole. She dashed off and I thought I heard a crash. I waited about ten minutes to calm my nerves and went to look for sign. Where she was standing was some white hairs and a chunk of meat. I thought I perhaps made a bad shot, but know I saw the bullet strike home. I began looking for more sign and found another blood covered chunk.

I continued looking for more sign and didn't find much but then saw a big white belly and my doe was dead after only a 30 yard dash! The first ten yards of the track had very little blood but the last 20 had quite a nice blood trail. The bullet actually made a nice exit.

This was my first big game semiauto kill as well as my first game with the 10mm. Pistol is a Sig P220 Hunter with a Vortex Venom. Load is 180gr XTP, 9.0 grs of Longshot, CCI primer and Starline brass with average velocity of 1268 fps. Pictures that have the gun show the entry and the last photo is the exit.

Thread below is from load work up and range day.
