Well last Friday I headed up for our annual Elk Hunt. We I got there my cousin advised that he had tickets to the league opener of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Nipawin Hawks were playing the Humbolt Broncos . The new coach for Humbolt is from Regina and played most of his minor hockey against my son and they both went on to play junior.
Anyways on the way home we spotted a herd of Elk with a real decent 6X6 Bull with them and the bonus we had the exclusive rights to hunt so we thought we were set for the morning .
The next morning we got there about 1/2 before legal hunting time and believe there were more trucks there then there was the night before at the sold out hockey game .
We hunt farmland in the mornings which is a crap shot but there is a real good chance you will get a crack at a herd or 2.
In the evenings we have permission to hunt a beautiful aphala field that borders a provincial park called Greenwater, we have 4 different tree stands & call from those stands. That evening we called and did not have any luck and on the way out about 8:00pm it started to pour rain  and it didn’t quit raining until Wednesday noon and it left behind 5 1/2” rain. We did the best we could hunting farmland but could only hunt off of high grids.
Anyways Sunday evening we went back to our stands there was 5 of us and the couple who got married on August 4th & I performed the service was with us it was Sylvia’s first time being able to hunt as she had finished all her course we dropped her & her husband off in there stand and about 20 minutes later we just started a call sequence when there was a shot then a follow up shot . About 3O seconds later Sylvia texted stating she had shot a spiker bull & it was still pouring  then she sent a photo and I teased her that she shot a rock  .
Anyways we jumped on the quad and got over to them to help get him out!!
Here are the photos.
Sylvia is 4’10” tall & about 90lbs but for that night she was 6’4” & 220 .
Blessings,
Dan
