Just got home from my first NRL hunter match in La Grande, OR. Quite a bit different then PRS that I'm use to. Some similarities, but also just different. Main difference is acquiring targets, ranging them, and packing all your gear in a backpack and hiking between stages. The similarities are building a good solid shooting foundation and that's about it haha. I'll go back for more. It was fun. We had a good squad of guys, my cousin went, and also a few other guys we shoot PRS with.
For starters we all just did the skills division since it was all of ours first NRL match. I don't have a rifle that really meets the power factor and weight limit, even for heavy division. My 6 BRA comes in right at 17# and the cutoff for heavy is 16# Wouldn't matter again anyway because it doesn't meet the power factor of 380K, which can easily be had by multiplying your velocity by bullet weight.
I ended up coming in 2nd in the skills division, behind my cousin who took 1st in skills division. He shoots a 6 Creed. I took 5th overall out of 25 shooters, and my cousin took 3rd overall.
I bombed 2 stages out of 8 pretty good. The first stage was 725 yards and I had a heck of a time locating the targets tucked back in the shade, along with the smoke. I also didn't have any rear support shooting from the log kneeling, so my "wobble zone" was pretty good lol. I only got 3 points out of 8 on that one. 1 first round impact and 1 second round impact. I proceeded to either clean, which is 8 points (4 first round impacts), or get 7 points which is 3 first round impacts, and a 2nd round impact for the next 6 stages. I ended up bombing the last stage also, which was 625 yards and only got 2 first round impacts for 4 points and no impacts the next 4 shots. I again was not using a rear support. I have never used a tripod rear for support, just can't wrap my brain around it for some reason. However I definitely need to start practicing it because it is absolutely a game changer for sure. That is how my cousin beat me, he was using a tripod rear for support.
All in all, great day of shooting and making new friends. Highly recommended!
