Now with the new 52gr bullets in my hand, I am looking for a new powder to try out. I have a few in mind but want to ask the pros. I would like to have two different loads for the rifle. So that means no IMR 4064, Fed 210 primers, 55 Vmax bullets, or Win brass. I have Rem brass, 52gr Nosler Comp bullets. What primers and powder would you try?

Varget and RL 15 are two excellent choices for he 22-250.

Probably throw TAC in there, just cause as well.

When he was about 80 years old, Dad shot this group with his factory Rem 700 .22-250, a load we worked up together:

I had Varget, H380, Benchmark, and 8208XBR on my short list. I have some 8208 that I use in my 6.5 Grendel and the Varget could be used in my 223 and if I ever get a 204 so it would be worth having on hand. Keep the info coming. Thanks

That is an enviable group, Guy. As I get older, the more those 22 centre fire rifles appeal to me.

Mike, at your age I would be looking at the .17 and .19 calibers. No need in beating up those old bones with them big bore .22 cals!

H 380 gave me the best groups with 52 gr noslers and they were impressive I think the charge was 36-36.5 fed 210 and win cases.

Good suggestion, Scotty. I'll look into it. I'd do more bow hunting, but it is tough on my old bones to draw that 17 pound draw bow.

Man picking a powder is hard. I have been reading for the last 2 days. I do have some Win 760 sitting on the bench. Maybe I should give that a try??? Varget looks good but the speeds are lower than other powders out there.

Its actually quite simple. Start with Varget and if you do not find an accurate load, go to RL 15.
Don't worry about the velocity, the 22-250 is plenty fast enough. Focus on accuracy instead of speed.

Most of my 22-250 P'dog loads are around 3800fps with the 50 gr. Sierra Blitz.

Haven't heard any 'dogs complain about it being too slow!!!!!!!!

Jim

I did loose focus and got hooked on speed. That being said, I do have some XBR8208 that I would like to try before I buy Varget.

had 22-250 in a 1-9 twist built, the only load data i can find is for 1-12 or 1-14. want to use varget and nosler balistic tip, need help. thanks art

awillow,

Welcome to the forum. Your 9 twist will use the same data a 12 or 14 twist will use. However, you will be able to stabilize heavier bullets. Look especially at the data for the heavier bullets, for that is where your rifle will shine.
