looking at Kimbers 84m varmint rifles........

the Varmint (walnut) has a 26" tube with 1:14
the Pro-Varmint (laminate) has a 24" tube with 1:12

Do you think they sped up the twist of the shorter bbl to make up for lost velocity?
I can understand the shorter bbl on the laminate version - due to weight, but I don't get the twist change?????? why not make them both 1:12????? or maybe even 1:10??????

Do you think a 26" 1:14 would shoot 60gr PT's????? seems borderline to me.

sorry, just thinking out loud........

Chet,

The 1:14 twist is very iffy with the 60 gr PT. A 1:12 twist is much better.
I will never understand why 1:12 isn't the standard twist for the 22-250.

just checked the kimber website..... both are actually 1:14..... apparently the one on gunbroker that i was checking out is listed incorrectly....

Yeah, that sounded a little funny. I would think if they were going to offer two twist rates, one would be significantly faster than the other, to maybe stabilize the 75 and 80 grain bullets that are becoming more popular.
