I just got a Browning composite stalker in 22-250. Figure it will make an excellent coyote rifle for the truck and calling/walking. It has a 22" bbl, very skinny barrel, .560" at the muzzle. It is VERY lightweight. Kinda bugger to hold steady, not a big fan of light rifles because of this very reason, but anyways.
Not sure on the twist in the brownings, but I always like to shoot 55g vmax or NBT's for coyotes from the 250. I've personally never had a problem with the 1 in 14" not stabilizing the plastic tip 55g bullets, but many have reported some bad accuracy issues.
So I figure I'll load up some 50g vmax since I have them and see what happens. I"m hoping for 3800fps, but with the 22" tube, it may or may not happen.
I am not new to the 22-250, this being my 2nd, and I've loaded for my dads since I was 12, but was wondering what you all were using for 50g bullets that is giving super speed without sacrificing accuracy??
My dad and I have always used IMR-4895 with everything from 40-55g bullets with stellar results. However looking in the nosler manual, H380 and Varget look promising as well. The idea is to have a powder that shoots great at the top end.
Should I just try the old standby 4895, or try 1 of the other 2 powders, or something else??
Right now am shooting some of my dads 40g vmax/IMR-4895 loads. I just got to sight it in on a rock about 200 yards away out my window in about 20MPH winds the night I got it. Didn't get a chance to shoot groups or anything with it yet. Seems to shoot ok with my dads loads though, no problems with the cases or extraction or primers or anything.
I'll probly shoot them at 100 yards this weekend just to get an idea of how there actually shooting group wise and get a crony reading on them. In my dads Ruger w/26" bbl there shooting 4000-4100fps.
