can i get some input on this one. i ahve a rem 700 with heavy barrel. 1 and 14 twist. i have shot the 55 grainers and they seem a lil iffy on stabilization. i am wanting info on 50 gr. noslers if you have it. thanks gentlemen.

What are the 55gn loads, factory or hand? That twist rate should be able to handle the 55s, but anything bigger is extremely questionable. What 55gn bullets have you been shooting and what is your group size?

I'm currently using 38 grains of H380 behind a 50 grain NoslerBT with Federal GM215M primers (I know it's probably too much) in my Remington with 1 in 14 twist and I get great results with it. I have also used Varget powder with great results. But looking at my notes I failed to wright down how much powder I used.

I do know it was not the maximum charge weight though.

these are some handloads and some factory. we shot 38 gr. h380 with 55's and it wasnt quite tight enough prob. 1" at 100 yds. we also shot 33.5 gr. of imr 3031 with moly coated hornadys held at 3/4 " group. factory loads have been hornady v max 55 gr at 3680 fps on the box hold around the 3/4" and the 50 gr. moly coated v max at 3800. have shot 3/4" also. just trying to narrow down a staring load. might try 55 gr. bergers too.

Yeah, GM215Ms are over kill for a 22-250, but if they work, keep using them.

has anybody used the barnes varmit grenades ? i saw it said on the box 1 and 12 twist or faster but i figured somebody has had to try them. this set up is just for coyotes and other varmits

The info below is straight from Barnes' online reloading page:
*A 1:12” or faster twist is recommended for 45-grain Banded Spitzer and 53-grain TSX bullets.
*We did not shoot data for the 62- and 70-grain TSX bullets because they won’t stabilize in rifling with a 1:12” twist. The ogives of these two bullets don’t meet SAAMI specs unless the case mouth
is positioned over the ogive.

I've used the Varmint Granades in my .223 (because they are non-lead and I live in California) Instead of lead Barnes uses a Copper/Tin alloy. I've only shot groups with these and they shoot OK, not nearly as good as the 1 hole groups I get with the 40gr Nosler BT's. I have yet to shoot any animals with them, I'd bet they are decent though.

All I can say is I use an extremely Hot load of Viht N-140 with 55 grain BlitzKings normally or Ballistic Tips... both shoot in the same place and both @ half inch @ 100yds.
Winchester Case, CCI BR Primers....

You should be able to stabilize up to 63 grain easy.....my experience reflects that

True with the Sierra 63 gr but NOT true with the Nosler 60 gr BT, bullet is too long for 1:14 twist.

JD388, thanks for posting that load with Varget because I was looking for a good load with that powder for my grandsons 22-250. Hey, great group for sure. Nice shooting. JD, did read your writing correctly "36.0grs Varget"??

36.0 grs Varget and a 50 gr BT, Nolsers listed MAX load for the 22-250.
