I'm on the process of deciding between a .22-250 and a .243. I had a offer for a Win Coyote .243 brand new. Was looking on the tables-Has had anyone had experience with the 55gr BT, in the .243?
I think this Cal .243 could double for varmints and game, I will be hunting mostly Coyotes- maybe the 55gr or 70gr BT and a Nosler Partition in 85gr or 100gr for game.
Any loads with the .243?? with 55gr and 70gr Ballistic Tips??
Any recomendations?
Thank You.-
God Bless.

The .243 would make a good pick because you can use it for deer if you want and shoots a little flatter but nothing wrong with the 22 250.

I own both, I've tried everything from 55-95 grain bullets in the .243. My gun, a howa 1500 really liked the 70 grain BT but had trouble stabilizing anything lighter. A 1-10 twist really cant stabilize those light bullets but they do make for a really good explosion.

My 22-250 is a kimber provarmint. It likes 50grain CT Ballistic silvertips. Regularly shoots 1/2 to .6 or so 5 shot groups. If you're into varminting the 22-250 will make you much happier.

The varmints can't tell the difference, they end up as splatter either way.

I love the flexibility of my 243. I am about to get into coyote hunting, and have talked to a bunch of guys in my area about it. Most all of them are using a 243 with something like 70-85gr bullets. I and my brother and father have all killed deer with this 243, so I know it will work on the deer. I assume it will work on the 'yotes.

I have no real experience with the 22-250, but have loaded both the 55 and 70 grainers in my .243. What I settled on is:

70 grain BT
40.5 gr Varget
Winchester brass
WLR primers
Remington 700 BDL

5 shots into about 5/8" at 100 yards and works on everything from those little striped ground squirrels to coyotes. I tried the 55s as a prairie dog load one year, but again, went to the 70 for all-around varmint use. I am thinking of trying IMR 4064 also.

IMHO the 243 would be better suited to longer shots than the 22-250 because of the Higher BC bullets available. However, the 250 will be a little quicker and flatter out to around 300 yards. Both are excellent rounds, I feel the 250 is better for varmint but as stated above the 243 is big enough for deer sized animals as well. All depends on what you are looking for.
