Hope everyone is having a great holiday/hunting season.

I have a question about reloading the 243. I am trying to work up some 100gr Nosler Partition loads. I am using Nosler manual 8 and they list 47gr max for H1000. When I try to load 45 grains at a slightly deeper seating depth (2.668 vs 2.680) the case neck deforms. This happens at the very bottom of the stroke. My seating depth is greater than Hodgdon's with the same components (2.650).

I did the same with Reloader 16 at 37.5 grains and got deformation but not as much.

Am I missing something here? I have never had this issue with any of the larger calibers.

RCBS FL sizing dies, Federal Brass and CCI 200 primers. Trim length 2.035.

Thanks in advance for any help

Tim

Tim , I'm guessing your seating die is not properly adjusted , I think it's trying to crimp . take a empty resized brass and put it completely up . turn your seating die body down until it lightly touches the brass case . then raise the die up one full turn , and snug the lock ring . now back off the seating stem a few turns . get a piece of brass primed and powdered , ready to seat a bullet . adjust the seating stem down a little at a time until you get your desired COAL .

Thanks Jim. I was just about to try to replicate it. I generally don’t crimp or I crimp with a lee factory crimp die..
You saved me from screwing around!
Now I’m working on my 223Rem song dog load...

CT I load the 100 gr Partitions for a 243 and I help my brother load the same bullet for a 243. We are getting great results with IMR 4831 and IMR 4451. I know you did not ask but I figured I would throw my 2 cents in. I would like to know how your results are with H1000.

you're welcome , glad I could help .

I know today we are loading with what we have , or what we can find , due to component shortages . the best choices are not always obtainable . if I could offer my opinion on powder .

H1000 is not a good choice , you can't get enough in to get max pressure . 50.0 gr is close to max pressure at 111% case fill 3015 FPS 59784 psi
47.0 gr is 104.5% case fill , 2797 FPS , 47472psi ( rated at 60191 psi )

I'd be looking at ;
RL26 , 48.8 gr , 99.9% case fill , 3096FPS
IMR7828sc ,47.3 gr , 101.2 % case fill , 3052 FPS ( I've used this in the same combo , it works well )
RL22 , 47.2 gr , 102.7 % case fill , 3041 FPS

the loads above would be max loads , back down 4.0 grains for a starting load

if you have any other powders you were considering let me know , I can run some numbers .

I agree with Jim on those powder recommendations. I’d add iMR4350 and IMR4831 to the list. 4831 was great with accuracy.

I’ve done extremely well with RL26 in many cartridges high speed and always close to best accuracy.

H1000 I use on the 300WM for some loads.

Good call on the seating die.
My go to powder was always IMR4350 for 95-100 gr bullets in the 243 Win. Accuracy was well under MOA in a Winchester 70 XTR.
