Anyone have any tips on loading the .244 Remington. I just picked up an old 740 in .244 Remington. Got dies and brass on the way, not sure what bullets to try with the 1in12" barrel. Perhaps a 85 gr Partition.

The 1x12" twist in those early Remington 244 rifles seamed to favor a 100 gr. Hornady round-nose bullet. I used 42.0/ 4350 for my best groups.

My best 85 gr. load was with a Sierra spritzer and 46.0/ 4831 and a std. LR primer.

YMMV

Bruce the 85 gr. Partition or 90 gr. AccuBond should both work very well. IMR4350 and H4350 would also be two excellent powders to try.

David

PS- I can check and see if I have a few of the Accubonds laying around I could send you to try!

Whoa! You didn't waste anytime there! I thought I just read the other day how you were going to grab one. Very cool.

I'd think a 85 Partition might be decent. Looking forward to your load work

David sure seems to make his 6mm Rem work on about any game. I must say that I would gladly take one should it come available.

Thanks, I've got 90 accubonds and I think I have a box of 100 Hornady Rnd noses back in the back somewhere from decades ago. I'll have to go digging. After some research I'm thinking H4350 and IMR-4451 to start. Dies should be here next Tuesday.

Can't see that combo not working!

Don't overlook the Sierra 85gr hpbt or the Nosler 90 BT. The pro shop has the 95 gr so cheap right now, that might be worth trying too, or at least they did 2 days ago. Good luck with it.

This is actually one new project that I have a bunch of options in the bullet cabinet for 6mm seeing that the .243 win was my first reloading "victim" some 45 years ago. I have more partial boxes of 6mm than any other bullet. I'm gonna try some 95s and some various 100s just to see if it will shoot them. That is if the 740 isn't a real scatter gun like its reputation seems to say. But I also heard and have read that they shoot much better in the smaller calibers. We'll see. I'm not out on a limb here, I have less in this gun than any of the Walmart kit guns.
