.25-06 87 grain Sierra Sp

Anyone have any pet loads with the 87 grain Sierra SP in the .25-06? Looking to get between 3400 and 3450 from the 24” tube of my Remington 700.

I used the 85 grain Ballistic Federal premium factory load (3500 fps muzzle velocity!!) years back for coyotes, rock chucks and badgers in Idaho. Got a good deal on a couple boxes of the Sierra so thought I would give them a try.

I have H4831SC, Varget, and IMR4350....and go!

I remember loading some 20 years ago with 3031 because thats what i had on hand and was supposed to be 3300fps but i don't remember remember the charge.
I will be interested in what others may have ive got a box and a half of the 87gr on the shelf yet.

It has been about 28 years ago but I loaded some 87 gr Sierra with 52.2 grs IMR 4350 which was the suggested accuracy load from their manual. I used Remington cases and CCI BR2 primers. Manual said 3300 fps I did not have a chrno back then. This load sure was accurate and would SMOKE groundhogs. Would definitely not be fur friendly. I was shooting these in a custom built Rem. sportsman 78 (poor man's 700) action with a 26" Shilen SS #6 26" long in an composite glass bedded stock which I still have but is in a H&S precision full aluminum bed stock. It is an easy 1/2 MOA rifle with a number of loads. Is a deer's worst nightmare with 117 Sierra Pro Hunters. Good luck.

I love the .25-06 as a deer rifle but one of its underrated capabilities is as a coyote rifle. If one loads an 85-90 grain bullet smoking right along it quickly outpaces popular rounds like the .223, .22-250 and .243 for such work.
