Was headed out to the range this morning when I noticed a dog standing out in a cut wheat field about 6 am. Had my 25-06 behind the seat so I knew he was in BIG trouble. He was about 150-200 yards out and appeared to be mousing. As soon as I started to slow down he stopped what he was doing and was locked on me. In the meantime I was trying to steer the truck, get my gun up front, take the scope caps off, and by the time I got the truck stopped, that little sucker took off hauling the mail. He was quartering away so I knew I didn't have to lead him that much with the 100g NBT going 3500fps. I put it about 1ft, maybe 1.5 feet ahead of his shoulder and let the 100g NBT do the rest of the work. At the crack of the shot, all I saw was a big pile of dust. NICE!! He did a few rolls and was done for. The 100g nbt at 3500fps is not very fur friendly, lol. Sorry no pics this time, I was already running late getting out to the range.

What load do you use to get 3500FPS and what rifle? The best I do is 3380FPS with a 100gr BT in a ruger M77 with 56grs of IMR4831. This is measured 20' from the muzzle over my chronograph. Is yours actual measured or a book figure?
Just interested in seeing if I can do better than I have now. My load is a Ken Waters load and super accurate.

Congrats

I just love a happy ending to a Coyote story = Happy Hunter = Dead Coyote.

Man I have been on a dry spell as of late. I haven't had the opportunity to kill a Coyote since last winter.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Not to often I get them on the run, but when I do connect its kinda nice to share the story with a happy ending.

The rifle is a rem 700, 24" light varmint shilen bbl". 6-18x leupold w/target knobs. Load is 100g NBT, 60.5g Retumbo, Win case, WLR primer, 3.250", 3500fps, 1/2" MOA.

Here is a pic of a semi-ladder test at 400 yards. 60-61g of Retumbo w/100g NBT. I stuck with 60.5g as it had the least vertical and was good for 3500+fps.

Remmy,

That sure is a fine looking rifle!

I will have to see if I can get some of that powder and try that load. Is that actual over a chonograph or estimated FPS?

I picked me up some of that retumbo last weekend at scheels can't wait to try out some laser beams in my 2506

at 60.5 gr th3s almost full eh?

something else that looked like it had potential in the 2506 was RL-17

Yes, it has been shot over a cronograph several times. It ranges anywhere from 3480-3520fps. So I just call it 3500fps.

60.5g is a compressed load for sure.

Retumbo has been by far the fastest and most accurate powder I've tried in several 25's. Its fast becoming my favorite combo.

Has anyone tried any of that retumbo powder in a 280.rem,looks like it would work good in one .. :?:
