Hey Remmy, you are an authority on 25-06 stuff and I was wondering how a load of 53grs of H4350 behind a 87 grain Sierra and a Win LR would do for coyotes? Would the speed likely be around 3350-3400? This is what I want a good load using H4350, an 85-87 grain Nosler or Sierra for coyotes. I have a remington model 700 with 24" bbl but it seems to be a little slow. The Federal Premium 85 gr Ballistic Tip factory load is advertised at 3550 but clocked 3395 in my gun. It does shoot sweet but I want to roll my own. If H4350 is not going to make it how would RL22 do?

Matter of fact there elkslayer, I'm getting 3340 fps with a 100 gr bullet over a charge of H4350. Rifle is a 24" Rem 700. Accuracy is good. Load is close to max, so work up carefully.

Not sure what velocity you would see with the lighter bullets.

Yeah, actually, with 53grs of H4350 I can easily get 3300 with a 100 grain bullet and that is actually the load I use in it for deer, the shots here are long and that flat trajectory just cant be beaten. Yet I have been doing a lot of predator calling with a friend lately and I wanted to load up some lighter 85-87 grainers for coyotes, bobcats and the like. There is a bounty on the cats on my ranch. Anyhow, that 100 grain load is sure a good one though. Remmy has a post where his little sister killed a cow elk at 350 yards with a 100 PT at 3300 fps.

Cool.

With the .25-06 I've decided to just stick with one bullet weight, 100 grains, for everything including rockchucks, coyotes and deer. No complaints so far! I just swap to a stronger 100 grainer for our mule deer. Nice shooting rifle. Got the Rem trigger tuned to where I like it now too.

It should get around 3300-3400fps or so. I"ve shot some coyotes with that 87g sierra at 3400fps and they do a little bit of damage...Not to much of a pelt saver, but I dont really know of any bullets in a 25-06 that are exactly fur friendly in the first place. If 4350 dont work out for you, I would actually look at RL-19 for the 85g weights. It will give you very good velocity and accuracy, usually anyways.

The 100g bullet is a pretty versatile slug out of the 25-06. Kills very well.

Is that with the H4350 charge of 53 grs that should get 3350-3400 fps? Yesterday, I shot a magpie in the head out of a tree at around 150 yards with my 25-06 and the 85gr BT. Muzzle velocity is 3390 fps. It is Federal factory ammo. That is why I asked here because at 22 dollars a box for the Federal ammo, I want to make my own. I would just as soon shoot the BT but i have some 87 grain Sierras as well. I get good accuracy out of both bullets. I just want to use H4350 or RL22 because I am trying to consolidate my powders. I do get great accuracy and speed out of 53grs of H4350 behind the 100 BT and 100 grain Hornady both at 3250-3300 fps. As far as pelts go, I dont care, I just shoot them when they try to eat our calves...there is a bounty here but you only need their ears. I think 3350 is fast enough for me, and if we cant get it with H4350, well I may just go to the 100 BT for everything, I really like the idea of consolidating my bullets as well and becoming intimate with the trajectory and performance of a single load in each rifle.
