25 WSSM??

The short list of scopes is Leupold 2-7x33 CDS or Leupold 2.5-8 from custom shop with CDS turret installed. I can get the 2-7 for 150 less than the 2.5-8, but I can get the 2.5-8 in silver.

Tough call. I really like my 2.5-8x VX3s and VX III, but I hate silver scopes... That's going to be a heck of a nice rig, sir!

Nice find! Be sure to keep the original stock. Such a rare cartridge and rifle combo might someday be worth more than the same rifle in some other caliber. BT

I actually found a NIB 223 wssm featherweight with really nice wood. I'm leaning towards picking it up, swapping stocks and either selling the 223 wssm or sending it out to become a 458 B-M super short. Buying the stock alone would cost more than half price of the complete rifle!

I ended up finding a NIB 243 WssM at a local distributor, they had had it for a long time so the guy let me have it for 600 bucks. It should be here tomorrow, the stock alone was going to cost 435 so I think this was the smarter option.

Sadly now I am in the dilema of having two WSSM. I’m definitely keeping the stainless 25 in the feather weight stock but what to do with the 243 WSSM blued barreled action. Either mate it up with the synthetic stock and sling it, or keep it. SSK wants a small fortune to rebarrel to 458 BM SSM so that out. I can’t see spending 850 dollars just to get a new barrel screwed on, and BM cartridges won’t lend or sell a reamer to anyone else.

I do have a spot in my arsenal available for a long range target rifle. The factory sported barrel has a 1-10 twist, not quick enough to stabilize most decent long range bullets. I can get a winchester coyote, laminated heavy target stock for 100 bucks, and can get a heavy 1-7.5 twist bartlein barrel for another 300. I’m betting 105 amax @ 3200fps or 115 dtechs @ 3000fps should reach out there for long range steel and varmints. That short fat powder column should be like a 6mm BR on steroids.

Lots of options, but making this a dedicated LR rig will probably run me $550 + scope cost (1200-1600)

What do you guys think.

Nice find on the 25, that should be a fun rig! I have a 2.5-8x36 with cds on my 243. Got a smokin deal on the scope slightly used and sent it in to leupold for the cds, very reasonable price and turn around was super quick. A local shop has a 243wssm varmint stalker thats been growing cobwebs for years, interesting cartridge but between the 243 and 240bee I havent been able to convince myself of the need, but since I compulsively buy 6mm components I may need to pick one up just to have something to help me use up all those bullets...

Send it to JES. Let him make a 35 or 400 caliber out of it. Might be a cool little rifle with some thump.

Looks great, now I just have to load up some ammo and get some glass on it

Just got to figure out what to do with the blued 243 wssm now

If you need brass let me know I know of a place that has a ton of 25 WSSM squirreled away I don't know price but I think if a guy asked about it he could get it for a decent price.

I sure do like the walnut and stainless in the Featherweight. Very handsome pair.

I have access to a boatload of 243 wssm brass, I just formed up 50 from 243 to 25. I’ll fire form some tomorrow and see how they shoot with 100gr NBT. Im putting a 3-9x40 on it for now. leaning towards a 6x36 with TDS dial.

d-tech is making 35 wssm's over on the Predator Forum that would be an interesting little round, 200fps faster than a 358 Win. with 200 grain bullet.

Good luck getting an upper from D-Tech. I believe Brian waited two years for his 243WSSM upper..

Bear, that 25 WSSM looks really awesome. What a slick little rifle!

I had a d-tech complete rifle in 7 days from order to delivery about a month ago. but he is backlogged 14 months, he built it on his day off as a personal favor.

HA! Yeah, that is crazy. Brian waited just about 2 years for his 243 WSSM from him. I think the worst part is he never mentioned realistic timetables or contacted the customers at all, just to inform them it was going to take longer than stated in the beginning. That sorta stuff goes a long way with me.

mike is a one man shop, the reason he is backlogged that much is due to the lack of available parts, he gives his best estimate, based on the rate of flow of incoming parts, vs. how many orders are ahead of you, if his flow of incoming parts are interrupted, then everyones delivery date goes back, he's workin his @$$ off, I just wanted a rifle built from parts he already had on hand so he took one sunday afternoon and built it. there is not a better guy in the business than mike milli. I ordered my 25 wssm from him in 2004 I think it was and still get a Christmas card from him every year. He knows my daughter is diabetic, no matter what the call or message is about, the first thing he asks how she's doing.

Good deal. I believe you RR about him being a good guy. I have no dog in this fight since it was Brian's upper. I think he just got back logged during the hey day of AR building.

Maiden range trip. 100gr NBT over H414 for 3125fps. Not likely to win any matches but plenty good enough for a light hunting rifle

I ended up going with 2.5-8 vx3

Certainly a handsome rifle. I do like the looks of stainless on walnut that Winchester provided in the Featherweight.
