Hello everyone,

New here, LONG time Nosler bullet user. Just Thought i would post on my latest discovery, but kind of a review.

I had a good supply of 100 gr. partitions in 257 cal for my Roberts. Not real sure of the year of production they were but they shot bug hole groups and flawlessly slayed many whitetail, coyote, some crows, mule deer and one bear. Never to recover a single bullet, just lots of dead game, In my book perfect as one could get. That supply run low after years of excellent service and then bumped into some real oldie but goodies the old 'lathe' turned 117 gr simi-spitzers. The roberts shoots them just as good, but do leave larger exit holes in game, a good thing. Problem is, when this stash is gone, there really gone.

Birthday rolled around and found myself a proud owner of a new rem 700 LS chambered in the 25-06 rem. So, I put together a couple loads with different powders for the '06' with what I had left of the older 100 gr. partitions. Same story as with the roberts, tiny little groups but with 300 feet per second more velocity said my chronograph.

I was lucky enough to find and buy one box of 'new' 100 grain partitions to build more ammo for the 700 and compared them to the 2 older partitions I had left. On the new bullets It sure looks like the 'Partition' is moved forward a little compared to my 'older' partitions. That's very fine with me, more retained weight, the more bullet hole there will be. I just hope they shoot just as good as the older models.

Has anyone elts noticed the 'Partition' moved forward on other calibers?

Welcome aboard, Boom; we're always pleased to consider the contributions of fellow shooters/hunters. I can't say that I've really noticed the situation you describe. It is possible, however, as I'm certain Nosler is always interested in improving the product if possible. I'll have to look into this.

Welcome to the forum Boom, If anyone can find the change I believe it is Dr.Mike. We have a great group of people here that really are knowledgeable and have a ton of experience! Please don't mistake experience for old  cause there are only a few of us old experienced people here.
Sure hope you stick around I am sure you will enjoy the company.

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks fellas :) Seems like a good batch of knowledgeable people here. Hope to be able to share what I have learned from my own school of hard knocks and plain experience

Boom,

Welcome to the forum.

Nosler has made improvements over the years to their bullet for better performance, accuracy and manufacturability. Hard to say if there was any changes to the 257 100 gr PT and when it would have been made. How old are the bullets you are referring to?

Thanks JD338. The 'new' partitions I have are of current production. The "old" partitions were from the old boxes with the metal corner reinforcements. I'm thinking mid to late 80's production for them... If memory serves

I was guessing that by moving the dam more forward, to hold a little more weigh maybe they would compete better with the mono-metal fad bullets that's been going on for the last 25 years or so....

The new partitions are plenty fast. In my .257 Roberts, I am getting excellent accuracy and 3150 fps without pushing them too hard.

Charlie,

That's decent speed. What is your load if I may ask?

3150 fps From the Roberts, thats real good. My 'Bob' sports a 22 inch barrel. MY very accurate and functional red line load averaged 3098 fps, 100 grain PT. 46 gr. imr4831 w-w +p cases cci 200 cap.

The 25-06 gets me 3327 fps 100 gr PT with 58 gr RL 22, wlrm cap, R-P case. It also wears a 22 inch bbl, but man the thing will shoot. I have tried different 100 gr loads one with imr4350 the other with RL22, Both shot the same size of group. I choose the RL22 load just cause it was faster!!

JD, I am using 47 grains of IMR 4350 which is overbook but I think that I have some freebore.
