Hi fellas :) ..I just returned home from my Moose hunt, it was an excellent hunt just as I suspected...We were 6 hunters in total, and we managed to take 2 bulls, and 3 cows as 1 mighty fine caribou 8) .I shot a nice 4 point 800lb bull on Tuesday morning at 7:30am, there was a cow and the bull @327 yds (range verified with range finder) anyways the cow was totally broadside and the bull was slightly quartering away from me, I was going to take on the cow, but I wanted the bull instead, both were together in the bog @327 yds and down hill from my position, I steadied my .375 on my pole cat and took aim at the bull, I think I over compensated on the shot, I squeezed of the shot, and heard the famous loud smack!..The shot was kinda hight just behind the left shoulder, smashing the bulls spine, and he dropped as if he was hit by lightning, he was dead in his tracks, it took us about 15mins to reach him, where he was stone cold dead.
We all had a great time, and Grace's cooking was just superb as usual (y)

I well get some pics posted up shortly :) ..I'm kind of pooped out right now,

Thanks Vince :) ..he was a young bull, about 2 1/2 yr old, but in very good shape, should be good eating, had it butchered in Cornerbrook NL, yealded 240lbs deboned an vacuum packed. The boys from NY should be home some time tonight, and are going to email me their photos as there animals went straight from the woods to the butcher, I'm just working on getting my pics up shortly :)

Congrats buddy :) I'm sorry that I lost your call but we have pretty bad cell coverage here, we got beside a big cliff and you were gone. I tried to call you back but for some reason it said your number was not in service.

Sounds like the 375 H&H was more than up to the task.........

Lou congratulations my friend, sounds like that 375 did the job again!!! What a great calibre, I am sure looking forward to the photos.
Thanks again!!!

Blessings,
Dan

Great work Lou, nice to hear it turned out well for you. Enjoy the fruits, or should I say tasty eating efforts of your hunt this winter.

Here's some photo's for now, I have too many  ..Still waiting on the boys from NY and PA for their pics (y) ..Lou

Good looking two-and-a-half year old, Lou. He will be some fine eating, for sure. Congratulations on a fine hunt. Sounds as if you had a good time.

That is a DrMike special ! Lou thank you for the photos it is real nice to see for this shut in !!

Blessings,
Dan

For sure, that is my favourite size to shoot and bring home. In fact, I saw a beautiful young bull about that age this morning. He was bedded not twenty-five yards from the road. Unfortunately (and fortunately for him) the season was two weeks past.

I'm kind of surprised you took him out whole like that. I like to get the hide off ASAP. That hide will keep them warm for a long time. Pretty much same with caribou mainly because they bloat so fast.

Probably easier to do with them hanging though.

Hopefully next Sept. we will have a couple just like that down for the count!!! Three 35 Whelens on one hunt might be a first for this group of characters !!

Blessings,
Dan

Congratulations. That will be great eating. My wife got a huge bull a few years ago and the steaks were like chewing on leather.

The 260 gr AB in the .375 has worked out to be a terrific combination for Moose at any reasonable distance and angle. Congratulations Lou, that load just keeps cooking for your moose hunting needs.

Congratulations on a fine bull. I'm curious to know how you packed the meat. Vacuum pack? Dry ice? How much to fly the extra weight home?
We decided to drive to Canada with a 4'x8' enclosed trailer in tow because we figured that it was the only way to get the meat home. You have obviously found another way.
