Welcome to the forum, glad you found us here.
There are a few fellas here shooting the 260 Rem and I am sure they will be posting some pet loads shortly.
What are you planning on hunting with your 260 Rem?
Bulldog, welcome my mostest bestest load for my .260 is
remington brass
reloader19 46.5 gr
nosler 120 bt or 125 Partition
cci large rifle primer
this load works on hogs ,deer and coyotes. Start at 43 gr. of 19 and work up, hope this helps, rick
How rifles react to the same load varys but, in the two 260 Remingtons I have (Kimber M84 & M700 DBM) I get good results with these components.
100gr Nosler BT over IMR4350 with a WLR primer
120gr Nosler BT with IMR4350 and a Rem 9 1/2 primer
129 gr Hornady SP with R19 and a Rem 9 1/2
140 gr Nosler BT or Custom comp with either R19 or H4831 and a Rem 9 1/2 primer
You`ll need to adjust your OAL and charge to tune the loads to your rifle
Enjoy!
The rifle is a Rem 700 mtn rifle.. I can't believe how well it shoots! FWIW I'm getting excellent results from the bench with H100V with both 130 ABs and 140 NP..
Absolutely welcome to the forum ! There are a lot of good folks here willing to share helpful hints, tricks and laod info.
I have two .260's that I load for - a M700 Varmiter & Model 7. Both primarily used during elk season with exceptional results.
Nosler Brass
CCI - BR Primer
Max Charge of H414
130gr AccuBond
This has been the norm go to hunting load the last few years.
I've been playing with some N-140, N-560 & RL-19 with 130gr VLD's.
The last outing with the RL-19 shows some real promise.
Pic is of the recovered AccuBond out of my Dad's cow elk last year.
Good Luck and keep us informed on what your results are.....
My buddy got one of the first Rem 700 SS 24" barrel rifles made in 260 Rem. This was when you could not even get ammo or cases to reload for them and nobody had load data out yet. We made our cases out of Rem. 243 Winchester cases. Just run them through the FL die is all you have to do. We found that H-4350 powder worked really well with both 120 and 140 Sierra bullets. We ended up with using about 1/2 grain more powder than the max load that Hodgdon later published. This rifle was very accurate and it would really kill a deer dead in it's tracks. We used this rifle to kill 60 deer that year where we control hunted a big farm in NC that we were to take 100 deer each year off of. We shot deer out to around 500 yards and out of the 60 we only had one take a step after being hit. It took three jumps and piled up. We used both the 120 and 140 Sierra bullets. My buddy sold that rifle to a friend for his grandson and they have used it to kill who knows how many deer with it over the years and it still is dropping them in their tracks. I used the 130 Nosler AccuBond bullet in my 264 Win mag this past season to take 4 deer. If I was going to stick with just one bullet for everything from deer through elk in any 6.5 it would be that 130 gr AccuBond. It is the best of both worlds. It flies like the BT and starts to open up like the BT but holds together and keeps on trucking like the Partition. I did recover one bullet from a buck I shot at 111 yards that was facing me slightly left shoulder angle at me. Bullet hit the edge of that shoulder and destroyed it made soup of its vitals and was found when cutting up the meat in the right ham. It looked like the picture in the above post. Perfect mushroom and weight was 87 grs. Now that bullet left the muzzle at 3350 fps and had to be doing at least 3200 fps when it struck that deer. For a bullet to perform like that you have a winner.
I think an often overlooked powder for the 260 is IMR4320. I have found it to be a very good powder for this caliber. I use it in my daughters rem 7 with excellent results. It's extremely accurate in this rifle with both bullets listed below as well as consistent and good velocity.
Sierra 120gr Pro Hunter
Speer 120gr Hot-Cor
Rem Brass
CCI 200
42.5 grs /IMR4320
