I have a Rem 700 CDL. flutted barrel in 264 WM. Nice rifle, shoots well. I have found a 140 gr AB load with a bunch of Retumbo that shoots very well.

My problem is that I really like Sako Finnlights. I have 4, so I better like them.
7mm-08, 30-06, 270 WSM and 300 WSM.

Took both the 270 WSM and 264 WM to the range this morning and while the 264 is nice, I just feel very comfortable with the Finnlights and shoot them well.

I know there are ballistic advantages of the 6.5 - 140 gr AB, but for my hunting and shooting, not sure the difference is that big.

Trying to convince myself to keep the 264, but.......

It all depends on what sort of hunting you do. I've compared the 264 to my 270Wby, which is about 100fps faster than your WSM, across the board, and there's no difference using comparable weight for caliber bullets. Figuring in my comparison between the 270Wby and 270WSM, I can tell you you'll give up a few inches (maybe half a minute to a minute) from 300-500yds, and basically nothing in between. The 270WSM is a fine round, and if you handle the Sako better (more comfortably) you're likely to be more accurate with it. That will take away any differences right there. Of course, if the Sako is MOA and the Remington is .5MOA, you get a different story. But I suspect the Sako is as accurate as the Remington if not more so.

Hunt the one you shoot the best. I don't think you'll know the difference. What range is that?

Scott

That we be the Finnlight

The range is Douglas Ridge. Nice morning today.

Hunt with BOTH. I hunt with a number of different rifles. I usually take three or four rifles and a Contender pistol with me on my annual 3 week long deer hunt every year. I usually kill a deer or two with all of them. Life is too short to only hunt with one rifle. LOL

Eric, I have thought the same thing a few times, since I have the 264 and 270WSM as well. I actually think the 270WSM has more juice than the 264 since the heavier bullets are a little easier to come by and the 270 has the ability to scoot them a little faster. I like them both but realize there isn't any real difference between either of them. Both of mine are Model 70 Sporters, so there isn't enough difference between the two to matter either.

I really like your Remington, that is a sharp rifle. I know your Sako's are real nice too. Good luck with your decision, nothing easy about picking either or. If I had to get rid of one of mine, the 264 would go first as the 270 has alot more history than the 264, but it is personal, not performance based.

Who knows, this year if I am going to be hunting in open areas, the 264 is getting hunted. So, maybe I'll have a shift but I don't think it'll show me anything my WSM hasn't already.

To rub salt in the wound. I just got a notice from buds gun shop that they have 8 Sako Finnlights in 6.5 Swede available. Well now they only have 7

You dirty dog! Darn you! That's the danged rifle I want bad! Man, 1-8 twist, light and probably so accurate it hurts! Congrats

I wanted the smaller 6.5 to go along with my 264. I figure both using the same bullets would be sweet. I like that 6.5 Swede a ton. Run it modern specs and wow, it's a solid performer. Not that it was a slouch before but man, it's a sweet cartridge.

Good move for someone who collects them. That'd be a sweet cartridge.

They still have a couple left. Good price also

I saw that! Danged you man...

I am a little envious about that rifle. That looks to be the epitome of a light and highly capable rifle that is going to be carried all day long!

Plus, again, the performance of the Swede is really something. I am surprised QL hasn't kicked me out I have ran so many different combos!

This is the one that I would love to try though.. That bullet would have to be some fierce on bigger animals from what I have seen of the other Oryx's.

I bet the 140 BT would be real good in the Swede too. It's a really good bullet in my 264.
