Would somebody be able to run a quickload chart for me on a 270 Win shooting 140 Nosler Ballistic Tips?

I'm shooting them from a Tikka T3 (22.5" barrel). My load uses Hornady brass, CCI 250 mag primers, and H4831sc powder. Overall length is 3.32" Thanks in advance.

Question on the above QL data. Is the above data based on a cci250 primer or does it even matter.
 
QL advises to use the coolest primer that will ensure ignition. Using a magnum primer will increase pressure (and thus, velocity). For that reason, you want to test your load rather than depending solely on the projected data.
 
OK, got it. I was not sure since QL did not list the primer. Backcast88 said he was using a cci-250 primer.

First you need to know the fired cases capacity in grains of H2O, Quickload defaults to the lowest capacity case until you change it. Then you need to adjust the burn rate in Quickload until the output velocity of Quickload matches your chronograph velocity. And you don't get reasonable accurate information until you "tune" with accurate information.

Bottom line, the information in the Nosler reloading manual using the 140 Ballistic tip would be more accurate than Quickload without more input data and using a chronograph. There are just too many variations in firearms and the components used in reloading for Quickload to give more than a ball park guess.

As an example the Hornady manual lists the max load for the .223 using 55 grain bullets and H335 as 23.2. And the Sierra manual lists 27.5 as max with the same powder and same weight bullets. So how is Quickload going to be more accurate than reloading data when actual chamber pressure measurements are taken with strain gauges.

I have Quickload, "BUT" it must be tuned by knowing the exact case capacity and then matching your chronograph velocity. Therefore I would never ask for Quickload output data because it can be way off until "tuned". Meaning your better off averaging several reloading manuals and starting low and working up your load.

Below are two Quickload charts, the powder charge and bullet are the same in both charts. The top chart is with the actual case capacity of Lake City case at 30.6 grains of H2O. The bottom chart is the default case capacity of 28.0 grains of H2O and over 6,000 psi higher in chamber pressure.

I ran these charts just to see what would be the extremes in chamber pressure using mixed brass for short range practice ammunition. So you can see just changing brands of cases can cause a 6,000 psi jump in chamber pressure. So just think what would happen between a bore at minimum dimensions and one at maximum dimensions.

Quickload just gives computer generated guesses and reloading manuals give actual pressure data for the firearm tested and no two firearms are identical.
 
Nosler data called for 58 gr of H4831sc max while QL called for 58.4 near max. Not a lot of difference there. Nosler data does list case cap. The QL default case capacity must have been pretty close to nosler brass in this particular instance. I have used ww,RP,fed. and hornady cases in the .270. They all four have a different case capacity. I do see why QL is best if one enters actual case capacity.

I shot 3 or 4 different loads Monday morning. 58 shot the best with a group of .61" center to center. I had 2 in 1 hole and 1 slightly outside. Going to load a couple more at the specs above and a couple with an overall length of 3.34" to see how the rifle reacts.

58 grains shot well enough that I would not hesitate to load a bunch and hunt with them later this year.

Agree with what you said and posted. Quickload is a guess without chrono data and capacity.
Just for information, in many of the posts we ask the individual to get us chrono readings and case capacity so we can firm the data up if they would like.
I think the majority of the folks asking for QL, here at least, are aware of those things. I really believe most are trying to get a rough idea of what may be possible or trying to determine an acceptable powder to try. We always caution the "start low, work up" mantra. I have no issue running them for the folks here as I know they understand those parameters.
