Will this bullet make it through brush and still punch a black bear?

Pennsylvania mountains. The bear bed down on thick bushes.

Brush will deflect any bullet. I believe it is a stretch to imagine that any bullet will penetrate thick brush and still perform as it should on black bear. It may happen occasionally, but as a rule, once a bullet begins to penetrate brush, it will be deflected and you have no control over where it will hit.

Brush will deflect any bullet???? how about a shotgun slug?

So noone every had success with a 348 winchester or a 35 remington,
45-70

Correct. No bullet!!!

The key is how far past the brush is the bear? If it is close enough it might work.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a true brush bucker. All bullets can deflect. As already stated, it depends on the bullet, rate of spin, velocity at impact with brush, amount of brush, density of brush, and how far past the brush the bullet must travel.

Yep, any bullet.
There was an article a few years back in one of the hunting magazines where a guy did some real brush tests. EVERY bullet was deflected. In that test, the best performace came from heavy, high velocity spitzer bullets. The winner was something like a 250gr pointed bullet out of a .338 Wim Mag. Even then the target had to be within 2 feet of the deflection point to have any change of hitting it. at 4 feet from the deflection point, not a single bullet hit the target. You are much better off trying to shoot through an opening instead of taking a brush shot and just scaring the game.

Well stated Antelope_Sniper,

Find a hole and thread the needle.

That's what I plan on doing, an opening.
