I've been shooting 270s for 50+ years and have taken 3-4 moose with the old 160 gr Partition. The younger crowd is telling me that I should try Reloder 26 for better performance.

Have any of you tried RL26 successfully inn the heavy 270 bullets?

Thanks

Vern

It works excellent in my 270 WSM with 150's. The way 26 has acted for me, if I had a 270 Win I would be using it for sure or at least trying it. It's been very good in my 25-06 with 100 ETips so I can't imagine it not working great in a 270 as well.

Welcome to the forum.

I mentioned it on the "other site" but I have tried to get RL 26 locally without success so far but am planning on trying it eventually with the 270 Win and 150 gr + bullets, it looks too good not to try.

IMR 7977 has done well for me so far with the 160 gr PT so I'm happy with it so far, you can read about it here if you like.

The same powder works pretty good so far with the 150 gr Ballistic Tip as well. I have shot two black bears with the 160 gr Partition the last two springs and have been impressed. For moose and grizzly this fall I'll be alternating between the 270/ 160 gr PT load and my 35 Whelen with 200's depending on the mood of the day (and weather), either will work great I'm sure :)

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I was in the Nosler Pro Shop today and picked up some factory second 160gr. Partitions for my 270 Win. I have never tried these, but am looking for a bullet I can use for both Mule deer and Elk.
How does this bullet perform in the 270 Win using IMR 4350?

Welcome to the forum.

I haven't used IMR 4350 but remember some guys have tried it with success and gotten around 2750 fps if memory serves correctly. My new 270 does well with IMR 7977 as mentioned above, in my previous 270 Win Ramshot Magnum did well. The 160 gr Partition has been one of the more accurate bullets for me in the 270 Win so hopefully you find a great load quick.

Yes,have a load using RL-26 and the 160 gr NP. From a 22" it's getting 2850 fps and is very accurate in my FN Mauser .270 Win.

I have both R26/160PT waiting on standby to try in my old BAR 270. I always wanted to try it, seems to me it would be just as deadly as a similarly constructed 160 6.5 bullet...penetration should be awesome!
