Can someone please help out with powders to consider for the 270 Winchester pushing the 150 ABLR to a 63,000 PSI maximum and one using H4831sc to the same pressure? Components are as follows:
24" barrel
Nosler Case
Federal 215 primer
150 grain ABLR

This program rocks! Thanks in advance.
Joe

MRP, N560 and MagPro are your friends for maximum velocity.

Joe, it seems like any of those would make the plain old 270 into a laser. That is real impressive when you get a 150 out of a 270 up over 3000..

No joke Scotty! I was thinking maybe 2950 FPS if I was really leaning on it, but nowhere near 3K. Heck, running MRP or N560, I could knock a little off the max load and still be making 3000. Much faster than that and it seems like I start losing too much meat. I sure am enjoying this QL stuff.
Joe

Yes, and 63k psi is not seriously stressing the brass. QuickLoad does have a few applications, Joe.

What was impressive to me was the 270 running the 150ABLR @ 3000 carries more energy than a 300 Win Mag with a 180 PT at 600. Haven't ran it in awhile so I don't remember exact numbers but it's very impressive.

The 270 Win 150 gr ABLR at 3000 +fps is pretty impressive.

Yikes, I better re-evaluate my 55 grain load with IMR-4831. It shoots fantastic however I ran out of powder before I had a chance to chrony the load. Quick load is showing 53.3 as pretty much close to max pressure. I had know pressure signs at all however it does look like there is several other powders to take a look at. I acually took the 55 grain load from nosler manual no.1 using the nosler 150 PT. It shows 55 as max. The 150 LRAB looks to have less bearing surface than the PT. I THINK I may be OK but not real sure. I used to run 150 SGK,s at 3000 with know problems with 56 grains of IMR-4831. Quick load is awsome. I,m definitley going to take a harder look at some my old school loads for the .270.

Scotty,
Lucky for the 300 Win there's a 190 ablr to keep apples to apples! For the 270 ablr, that sd of .279 is higher than the 30 cal 180 grain sd of .271, long considered ideal for penetration. Keep on truckin n let the good times roll I say!
Joe

I do have some 150 ablrs loaded up for my 270 win using burns brass and mag pro. Have yet to get a chance to shoot them but should be interesting. Magnum worked really well last time and I could really push it. Ended up seeing pressure around 66 gr. All though accuracy was not there at 65.0 gr velocity was floating around 3120. Right around speeds of the 270 wsm.

Its really interesting to read the QL stuff.

In my 270 Win I run 59.0g of AR2213SC (H4831SC) under a 150g NBT and or 150g SST which is well above Hodgdon and ADI's published maximums. Yet my load chronies at a steady 2925 to 2950fps.

My chamber has large-ish dimensions I believe. Fired Win brass has 69.5g water capacity.

I ran as high as 61g of that powder. Heavily compressed, with 3040fps or thereabouts. That was an accurate load and had no signs of high pressure. That is way above recommended max so do not load it up for a try!

Interesting that the H4831 variants above are rated different to AR2213 because the SC versions of the two are identical.

EOD diver, I ran 7828SSC out of my 24 inch barrel 270 and I achieved 3050 consistently with Federal 215 mag primers. I belive it was 56.5 grains of powder ( not in my reloading room at the moment) ran through a Chrony Beta Master.

I pushed it to 58.5 and it started to show cratered primers and the bolt got sticky, but speeds were up around 3150 if I remember correctly.

I definitly want to test some 7828sc. 56 to 57 grs. of powder leaves plenty of room to seat the really long 150 LRAB.. I use a coal of 3.410 which means the bottom of the bullet is about .167 below the bottom of the neck. It does appear that 7828 would work nicely.

Pat, those velocities are awesome. 7828 did good things in my beater pre64 270 with the 140 AB but the load was a little slower than expected at 2850 FPS. None of the elk harvested seemed to notice though. I loaded up some 150 ABLRs with Magpro, rl22, 7828ssc and h4831 and have been looking diligently for some n560. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot 'em soon. It seems like 3000 FPS is more than doable with a 150 from everything I read.
Joe

Joe I don't think you'll have any issues getting 3000FPS from that "beater" 270! 7828 and RL22 should do it pretty nicely. I'm betting MRP would do it nicely too.

Scotty,
She's the best $500 I ever spent! Still waiting on some decent weather to get out and burn a few.
Joe

You guys are getting out there. I would love to get 3000+ out of an ABLR 150 gr bullet. I guess that I will have to find some 150 gr ABLR bullets around here and get busy with the Chrono. I bought some 140 Partitions to try out, having had some good success with them about 15 years ago.

I am with Scotty though on caution but we will see what the Chrono says?

Charlie, Scotty ran quickload for me and it predicted around 3000 for my case water capacity. I was really skeptical at first as well. Then I went home and loaded up a second batch and redid the entire load again and the results were identical. I was truly amazed I got 3000+ FPS with zero pressure signs.
