I have been loading the Accubonds for this rifle but happened into a good deal on multiple boxes of nosler ammo with the 160 ballistic tip - less than I would pay for the brass alone. I’m sure this would work fine for deer and antelope. What are your thoughts about elk? I mean, Berger shows that a fragmenting bullet can be pretty effective. Would ballistic tip be much different? Thanks

Since the ballistic coefficients are the same on both bullets, take them to the range and see how they compare side by side. Granted, you cannot exactly replicate the Nosler load, as you do not have the powder data, but if you were able to chronograph the loads, you could get closer. I would like the AccuBond or Partition for elk, but that's as much personal preference based on bullet performance on a larger, tougher animal. Using Nosler load data, they do not list the 160gr. Ballistic tip for 28 Nosler in their load data for 160gr., only 150gr. This could be due to the velocities being achieved from the cartridge.
Again, personal bias, but I steer clear of Berger because they come apart. I prefer the idea of tried and true(Partition) or the bonded aspect of the AccuBond. This is by no means discounting the terminal ability on the Ballistic tip either. Good luck!

Since you have a lot of the Ballistic Tip loads with the same ballistic coefficients as the AccuBond, you might consider pulling some of the Ballistic Tips and substitute 160 grain Accubonds for actual hunting. Use the rest for sighting in and practice. They both shoot the same in my 7mm Rem Mag.

I bought a few boxes of these ballistic tip as well just for barrel break in and the brass. But I would pass on shooting them for elk. My two cents there’s accubonds and there’s partitions.

Yes the 28N is a rather high velocity round. Stay off the shoulder inside 250 yds and it will work for you. I too have the same load / ammo.
Let me clarify - If it’s a bull tag , use the preferred bullet. Bulls don’t usually stand and pose presenting the “perfect” shot. Cow tag, go enjoy your time.

My philosophy is to use a bullet on elk that will work when the perfect shot goes wrong. I love the ballistic tip, but have seen both ballistic tips and Bergers blow up on the shoulder of an elk. Those shots were aimed for the crease but something in the equation wiggled. An AccuBond will go thru the shoulder, upper leg bone and continue. I’ve hit elk from 30 to 501yards on the shoulder with accubonds. Worked every time. In front of the diaphragm behind the shoulder Ballistic tips, Bergers, even the sst will kill them dead.
