Hey guys, struggling with the 160 partitions in my 280. Been getting very good accuracy and velocity using imr 7828 and various other brands of bullets (speer 160 boat tails, hornady 162's and sierra 160 hpbt) but everything goes way bad in the accuracy dept. if I try 160 partitions (or accubonds too for that matter, was thinking my rifle might be allergic to nosler but 140 ballistic tips shoot very well). I know there are several guys on here that have had good success with 7828 and 160 partitions. Is there perhaps a magic seating depth I have not tried? The other brands can all be made to shoot under an inch but the noslers fly all over the place.

I used 47gn of Varget with 160gn Sierra Game Kings and got a decent group. The average velocity was 2750fps. I don't know what the COL was.
A load with 60gn of Supreme 780 and the 160gn GKs didn't amount to a good group, but it was at 2980fps.

Nice groups! It may come down to trying a different powder with the noslers. velocities with the other bullets are running in the 3000 fps range, was hoping I could get the partitions to do it and call it done (I have many many 160's). I have a little more confidence in the Partition for an all purpose bullet, shot an aoudad ewe with the hornady interlock a few weeks ago and it turned inside out (at 380 yards), killed her just fine but raised some concerns about shooting something bigger and or closer with that bullet.

A you using Fed 215 Mag Match primers? That may be the issue. In my .280 I got decent accuracy with all loads but the Mag primers for 7828 SSC seemed to help.

Give IMR 4831 a try.
I loaded the 160 gr PT in 280 Rem with 54.0 grs of IMR 4831and accuracy was .400".

Was very happy with 7828 and the 160 Partition and just as warm and fuzzy with the 160 AB and 7828 using standard cci primers and rem brass which I switched over to Nosler brass my current load is 57 grains of 7828 ( not ssc) with the 160 AB CCI 200 primer and nosler brass this gives me 2880 from a 22" barrel and kills with boring regularity.

I have found in both my 7mm Rem Mag and my .280 that the 16 Partition seems to shoot better with near factory COAL. It could be the short ogive radius of that bullet which is the root of the problem?

The 150 gr PT is another excellent choice in the 280 Rem. It will give you all the penetration you need for elk.

Fotis, I don't have the rifle anymore but my chrono is pretty accurate with all other loads and comparing to others at the range. I swear that I got 3010 average for three shots with the 160 Partition Fed 215 MM and 58.0 of IMR 7828 SSC in my Browning A-Bolt II, 22 inch barrel. Rifles may vary but chrono's don't usually lie one day and not another.
